I don't know about your first question, I've never tried it. Avaya phones do support SIP, the newer ones anyway do.

The newer ones do suport SIP. If you check the docs on the particular phone type at Avaya.com it should tell you if it is SIP compliant or not. However unless you all ready have the newer SIP-type phones all ready I would think that would not be the best route to go. I would think that the Avaya phones would be a bit more expensive than most other brands (except Ci$co). Check the docs you can find on line because technically a full SIP system should connect to a full SIP phone regardless of manufacturer. I stress SHOULD because SIP is pretty fluid and one makers type of SIP may well be different than anothers.
