Many people go about this differently, some just unplug the unit from the power source and move on just hoping everything will be alright. Others out there do it correctly and limit their exposure to possible corruption/loss of files.

There are 3 ways to "Properly" shut down a NAM (Norstar Applications Module) : "Graceful", this allows the NAM to terminate all existing calls before shutting itself down. "Quick" allows only 45 seconds for an application to terminate before shutting itself down. "Immediate" allows only 15 seconds before it terminates an applications before it shuts down.

To Shutdown the NAM:

1. Press "Feature" 9 1 5

2. Enter the ACCESS password.

Display Shows:
ACCESS Server
BACK NEXT ADMIN

3. Press NEXT .

Display Shows:
System shutdown
BACK NEXT SHOW

4. Press SHOW .

Display Shows:
Shutdown type
QUIT NEXT GRACE

5.Press GRACE .

***Press NEXT to change the shutdown option to QUICK or IMMD (Immediate).

Display shows:
Shutdown Graceful
YES NO

6. Press YES .

***You can press NO if you want to stop the shutdown.

The NAM makes a series of tones/beeps descending in pitch when the shutdown is complete. Wait until after the tones/beeps before you unplug the NAM.
