Adding an Extension Remotely

I am still new to this only having added one extension, not well in my life.

I need to add an extension to a switch remotely, and I don't think it's possible given the numbering plan.

Furthermore, as a rule, once I add the station, is it better to copy a known working station or modify the station's restrictions, allow list, and features?

Bear in mind that on Merlin (legend/magix), unlike the definity, you don't really add stations in programming. Every physical port (and many non-physical ports) are already administered with a default extension number and feature set. You can change those extension numbers and features as you require.

If you are being prevented from changing a port to a particular extension number because it conflicts with something else in the dial plan, check if it conflicts with something that actually needs to be numbered the way it is. Many systems are incorrectly installed with a simple 3 digit plan that ties up all extensions from 100 up to 499 (or thereabouts) even those these ports don't exist on the system. Often all you need to do is renumber the 'phantom' port to something out of range (like 7399) and then you can renumber your existing port to the desired number.

I would go ahead and copy the button programming, restriction, and ARS restriction from a desired set but print the extension info and make sure there isn't something else that needs modifying.
