Music on hold

Hello everyone.

I' ve been having a bad time trying to configure Music on hold on our Merlin Magix R2.2.
I' ve donne everything the manuals says :
Magic on hold ---> Avaya music on hold coupler ---> line jack in the PBX
With SPM 7.0 I configured that line to be the PBX trunk for MOH.

However NO MUSIC is heard from outside callers when put on Hold.
Where have I mistaken ???

Any helpwould be gratly appreciated. :)

Re: Music on hold

Have you used a but-sett to see if the music is coming off the cable from the MOH device? Possible bad cable.

Re: Music on hold

I'm having the exact same problem - but the thing is I don't know what cable to use to connect a personal cd player to the magic music coupler.

I assume I need an rca jack on one end and a 1/8" rca phone jack on the other (for the headphone jack on the cd player).

I can't findone of these anywhere. anyone have a part number for this cable and where I can find it?
thank you.

I don't have a part number, but you can find one at any Radio Shack, or pretty much anywhere that sells audio equipment. You'll probably end up buying a stereo one (single 1/8" jack to two RCA connectors) but don't sweat it, just connect one of the RCA to the coupler and leave the other dangling - then set your balance on your CD player to full left or full right, one of them will give you your music.

Re: Music on hold

We have the cable you are talking about and tried just hooking up one of the two rca jacks, but the cd player does not have an adjustment for left or right. it is just a walkman that is usually used with headphones. But I would think that whether or not the volume was adjusted to the left or right or in between, you should still hear something through it, and we don't hear anything.

Re: Music on hold

You are correct, you should hear something. If I were onsite I would use my telecom testset next to see if I heard audio at the RJ11 plug. Not sure what to suggest if you don't have this tool.

Are you certain the magix is programmed to use the correct trunk port as your MOH source?

Re: Music on hold

We had an Avaya Tech here and HE didn't even have any tools to test if there was audio at the RJ 11 plug. He just told us we had the wrong cable connecting the cd player to the coupler.

Yes I am POSITIVE that the magix is programmed to use the correct trunk port as the MOH source.

do you think we should have another tech come out and use the telecom testset?

What do you suggest?

Re: Music on hold

*sigh*

Yes, tell them to send a real tech this time. He should be capable of using his butt-set (test set) to listen to the audio at every connecting point from the CD Player all the way through to the RJ11 before it goes into the legend trunk port.

Re: Music on hold

Thanks, We just ordered another cable to try, so if that still doesn't work, then i'll have them send another tech out who hopefully knows what he is doing.

Re: Music on hold

Allright - just to let you know... unofficially you don't even need that coupler. It's possible that is the problem here. If he can't get it to go tell him to hardwire the left channel from the CD player cable to tip and the ground wire from the CD player cable to ring on the RJ11 and see if that works.

Re: Music on hold

Well, we received the audio cable from Radio shack and it's still not working, so I called Avaya again. They told me that possibly its the cd player that is causing the problem because we are using a mini to regular RCA wire.
He suggested that we try a boom box with a regulard rca jack on it, and use a direct rca to rca cable. We are going to try that tomorrow.

Re: Music on hold

Don't waste your time. They are full of smelly brown stuff. You don't even need an Avaya trained tech to help you with this one - call up any local company under "Telephone systems" in the yellow pages, and ask for a service call from one of their techs.

Good grief. And this is Avaya themselves you are dealing with, directly??

Peter

PS Where are you located anyway? If in the Toronto area we can help you.
