PRI setup

I am setting up a pri for a customer who is moving. They currently have an analog t1.

Can I used the same card?
what is the difference between a DS! and DCD card?
What is the diffence between a national or custom package ISDN ?
Which one do I use?

anyother helpful points before i order the T?

FYI I have been doing merlins since the 80's but never really pushed pri's.
Old do new tricks i guees.
any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

and I really should use spell check. DS! = DS1, do=dog, guees= guess, the other I think you will get.

What's an analog T1?? If you mean a standard voice T1 (24 * 56k channels) it is actually digital but without the extra features offered by the PRI protocol, and yes you can use the same card on the magix. FYI refer to the thread here in "The Lounge" for a discussion on the difference between DS1, T1, and PRI.

The DS1 card was the first one to come out, it is just bare bones - the DCD card added an integral CSU/DSU so you don't need an external one, plus some more advanced testing / maintenance features.

I always use national ISDN, but the telecom environment is somewhat different between Canada and US so there might be reasons for using otherwise down south.

my mistake analog t1, i meant t1 but many people i speak with don't
use the same term the same way. do you even need a csu? I have installs without them.

I am in Canada. We don't bother with CSU's here either, but I was under the impression you were required to use them in the USA.

You can definately use the same card that was supporting your T1 for PRI. You will need to busy out the system to change it from T1 protocol to PRI protocol - but since they are moving I guess that won't be a problem, EH? :D

Re: PRI setup

the csu/dsu functionality is only there in magix 1.5 and higher. It functions as a regulare 100D before that. it is backwards compatible to R1 legend.

avaya will not support a t1 without a csu, period.

unassign all your T1 channels on a robbed bit ds1 before changing to pri.

pri gives you more services, like 2bdata stations for routers and video conferencing.

You can install a T-1 without a CSU, but it eliminates a testing point and protectin point for you. Also, if you are installing a PRI off of a 5ess CO switch, then the protocol must be set to ATT Custom. If you are using a DMS100, then you can use National protocol.

That's not entirely correct.

custom protocol brings the B channels into service with 23 service requests and 23 acks.

national brings up the b channels with one global restart. this will not work on a legend or a magix.

a DMS central office needs to have the variant on the LTDEF table set to:

NANAPTI (legend set to dms 100/250)
U449PRI (legend set to 4ESS)
U459PRI (legend set to 5ESS)

Also, in their trunk sub group table, the L1 flags need to be set to yes
