Hi Y'all,
I'm trying to have an ADSL connection patched through a phone line in an old building. The guy from the phone company came by and did all the connectiond from the hub to the PBX system and got fed up when it came tome to connect the RJ11 to the RJ45. It's been 22days since he last visited and I wanna be able to have access to my files on the thernet even when I'm not in office. Could someone please gimme the low down on how I can have this problem resolved. I ve been on so many siyes and printed so many wiring manuals i now feel like I'm going nuts.l Brian |

Re: RJ45 and RJ11 cables
The rj45 is for the computers. there are two type of connectors rj11 and rj12 how many connectors are there on the lead which you have. All the adsl modems in australia have rj12 connectors that is 6 connectors. Handset on phones have rj11 connectors that is 4 connectors. RJ12 and RJ11 are different sizes.

Re: RJ45 and RJ11 cables
Good Day
I’m taking for granted that you have the ADSL connection working because it should be a simple telephone cord connection. What I believe you are looking for is the network (WAN or Ethernet) connection from the ADSL modem or Hub to your computer through an existing non - CAT5 cable? Old 2 pair JKT with just RJ 11 connector boxes on each end!!!! There has to be 2 pairs available or the network connection cannot be made. Ethernet uses 2 pairs one for TX and one for RX. On a RJ 45 connector it would be ISDN pr 2 and 3. RJ 45 (ISDN) Ethernet (Network) ............. 2 ...3..... /.....\...... 4........Pr 1 – Not used.....White/Blue .. -...../...1... \......-.......Pr 2 – Data (RX).....White/Orange .|..|..|..|..|..|..|..|......Pr 3 – Data (TX).....White/Green 1........................8......Pr 4 – Not used......White/Brown RJ 11 Standard Telephone ..... 2 .. /.... \ Pr 1 – Telephone Red/Green ./...1... \ Pr 2 – Not used Black/Yellow |..|..|..| 1 ........ 4 If you can make the cables by scratch that would be Ok but it may be easier to take an existing network cable and cut on end off. You would be making 2 cables of the same design if you are using a network Switch/Hub. If you are connecting directly to your computer you will have to do a crossover. This will change the TX and RX. ..... Straight Thru.............................................. ..CrossOver 1........................ 8 RJ 45............................1................... ... 8 RJ 45 |..|..|..|..|..|..|..|............................ ..........|..|..|..|..|..|..|..| .3.3..2 .........2........................................ .... 3..3.2......... 2 . 3... 2...... 2................................................. 3..2 3....... 2 ... 3.. 2... 2................................................. ...... 2..3.3... 2 .... 3..2..2..3........................................ ............. 2..3..3.. 2 .....|..|..|..|............RJ 11...................................|..|..|..|... .......RJ 11 ......1........ 4................................................. ....1......... 4 RJ 45 pin 1 to RJ 11 Pin 1.............................. RJ 45 pin 1 to RJ 11 Pin 2 RJ 45 pin 2 to RJ 11 Pin 4.............................. RJ 45 pin 2 to RJ 11 Pin 3 RJ 45 pin 3 to RJ 11 Pin 2.............................. RJ 45 pin 3 to RJ 11 Pin 1 RJ 45 pin 6 to RJ 11 Pin 3.............................. RJ 45 pin 4 to RJ 11 Pin 4 I hope this helps. All you have to remember is a standard RJ 11 cable will not work unless you modify the jack you are connectiing to or make the cables above. Keep me posted. Cheers |
