Question Using name dialing for pager access?

Does anyone have a way of using the name dialing feature of the thru-dial service on Meridian Mail to allow callers to page specific people by name? Our pager numbers change each year as we get new contracts, and my Department Head wants to have a consistent method of paging users. I can set up a menu that allows callers to input a two digit number to identify a user, but my boss wants me to try to set up the name dialing feature to work, as well. Normally name dialing will only go to the internal phone number associated with the name in MM, but for this I'd have to have it go to an external number.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: Using name dialing for pager access?

I am not aware of a way to have M-Mail call an external number using the dial by name menu.

I do not have thru dialing activated on my systems so I could not test this but you might try setting the revert DN on a mailbox to the pager number and then call the mailbox and press “0” to see if the call goes to the pager. Of course for this to work the caller will need to call the persons extension and wait for it to go to voicemail.

You might also try programming the mailbox with remote notification so it will page the user when they get a new message. For this to work the call will have to go to voicemail and the caller will have to leave a message (best to have the greeting tell the caller to leave their number in case Caller ID does not come through).

The revert DN option would be easiest since the user can program the revert DN themselves and the remote notification would require that the administrator (you?) program the mailbox with the RN option and the notification number.
