How do you reset voicemail for an extension?

An employee was assigned an extension, but the voicemail (mailbox) was not reset or created. How do I reset the mailbox and re-issue a password? I know this is really basic stuff, but I'm new and I've never dealt with the phone system.

Thanks

what kind of system are you talking about? When you say meridian systems, do you mean Norstar or PBX (Option 11 through Option 81) ?

Re: How do you reset voicemail for an extension?

our posting states that the mailbox was not reset or created. The question is does this ext. have an associated mailbox or not. If the mailbox exist then you just need to log in to the meridian mail system and take option 1 from the main menu (user administration) then option 1 (local voice user) from the user administration menu. From the next screen press the soft key for View/Modify (F8 key) and input the mailbox number (normally this is the extension number). When the mailbox screen opens you can scroll down until you see the mailbox status line which will show you the mailbox login status (disabled or enabled). If the mailbox is disabled move the curser to the enabled option. To change the password press the F9 key and the system will have you input the new password 2 times. After you have enabled the mailbox and changed the password press the F6 key to save the changes.
If the mailbox does not exist then from the screen where you would have pressed the F8 key to View/Modify a mailbox you can press the f& key to ADD a new mailbox. fill in the required info (mailbox number, user name, class of service, additional DN's (this is usually a rollover dn on the same phone), Message Waiting Indication DN, etc.).
hope this helps.
