Post 800 number roll over

Is it possible to have an 800 roll over to a difference 800 number from another carrier upon failure? I know it can roll to a DID.

800 numbers are maintained in a database controlled by SMS, the Carrier is the RESPORG. I work on a DMS 500 switch, we "own" many 800 numbers that when dialed are routed to us and we than have a table in our switch that we can point the 800 number to pots line or a route that sends it as DNIS to a pbx.

We are currently working on setting up geographically located 800 numbers, but I think what you want is a 2nd CIC to send the 800 in the ervent of a Carrier failure. Now as far as "carrier" you do not mean the DS1 carrier do you? If that is the case, you are talking about the transport ( T1 ) failing to the customer end, sure, the telco carrier can re-route the 800 number, or they can get SMS to reroute it to a different number.

I was more wondering if Carrier#1 had our 800 number and they had a failure.. if it can be programmed to forward to a different 800 which is hosted from Carrier#2.

I know they can be forwarded to DID numbers just not sure about another 800#

In my experience, no. #1 will not hand off to #2. Another problem would be, where does the failure lie? Like dmstrans said, transport (front-end/back-end, etc...)
Most of the time the fail is on the near-end (your t1, ds3, etc). I that case you can have the toll free placed in service assurance, so that the number will now use your DID/CO's to get in.
If you have facilaties provided by another carrier access to your building, you can ask if your 'emergency fail over' be sent to the predetermined number at the other carrier. I doubt it though...MCI does not like passing off to AT&T/Verizon and vice versa...
