Avaya/Nortel Portfolio Webinar.
Is anyone going to participate to today's Avaya webinar to find out what Avaya is going to do with their Nortel assets?
I don't want to totally speculate, but my bet Avaya is probably going to discontinue most of all the current Nortel products. And I bet the name change will be changed immediately from Nortel to Avaya. Don't be shocked if anyone has a Nortel system and they get a 3 year notice not to long from now. Avaya is really pushing on the 3 year plans, which I think is insane. If Avaya is still having a hard time pushing from the DCP terminals/systems, then how can they push users forward with their existing terminals/systems? And how can Avaya push from a completely different system (a Nortel) their own system? I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a lot of questions, this merger was very interesting right when the rumors started early last year. Last edited by stevena; January 19th, 2010 at 09:31 AM. |

Re: Avaya/Nortel Portfolio Webinar.
I, like others who have posted on other lists, had difficulties trying to watch the presentation. There were hundreds of questions on the Q&A field, basically nothing will change (almost in their own words), there will be new releases for BCM and CS1000 and CS2100 (IP based SL-1.) The new Aura update will support a direct connection to the current Nortel CS switch. Things quickly will get slapped with Avaya stickers on new products.
SMB/SMEs will get a huge change in a few years, when Avaya will tie the best features from the Norstar and BCM into a new version of the IP Office. Thankfully the Partner will get the axe (finally!) and there will be a special version of the IP Office to support the ETR Partner terminals. There wasn't much word about if the Norstar and BCM would have their own version of the IP Office like the Partner, or will be generic release. However, the BSTs and the older Norstars should be supported down the road when the new IP Office supports the older Nortels in a few years. It seems like nothing will change significantly, but that's not always the case. Avaya is heading into the Cisco way of the 3 year rule. Avaya really hasn't taken off because of sucky marketing and a name that doesn't spell out the old AT&T. If Avaya just had taken Nortel's name and just became Nortel, maybe they get some fire again. |
