Re: bcm400 crashing

Phone systems are usually pretty stable once they are up and running.

If this system is crashing a lot that usually indicates there is a problem that needs fixing.

The best form of crash prevention is to call Nortel to find out what is wrong with the system.

I would also ask this question in the Nortel forum, you might get a better answer there.

Re: bcm400 crashing

I know a BCM400 is a Nortel switch because I used Google to identify it, beyond that I have no idea what the capacity or capabilities of the switch are.

Rather than compare switches by a brand name, look for what you want it to do. How many phones, what features, will it have Internet access, etc. Once you have come up with your minimum configuration, give that to all the vendors in your area and let them sell you on their product.

Of course, as you can see from my avatar, I am biased toward Avaya.

Re: bcm400 crashing

I am an Avaya guy, so my opinion is biased. BUT, I would not recommend any platform over another...I mean really, this day and age they pretty much all do the same as the next.

I would look into the technicians. If you have a crappy tech and crappy planning, no system is going to work the way you want.

Re: bcm400 crashing

You probably need to apply all the latest patches. What release is it?

Re: bcm400 crashing

Patches or a failing HDD are the crux of the issue on your crashing BCM... And now that it is an Avaya product maybe you should call them :)

Re: bcm400 crashing

lol, but technically it has only been Avayas for 29 hours. Follow the normal chains for now. Avaya has stated that nothing has changed and probably wont until February or so.
