Asterisk

Does anybody here use Asterisk? I've heard of some people doing some pretty awesome things with it...

Re: Asterisk

We use Asterisk, we have an outbound campaign with 30 agents and a home-made predictive dialer, with SIP softphones (just 4000-5000 daily calls); we also have a Prologix g3 csi trunked with h.323 to an Asterisk, to use a VOIP provider with our 4620 phones.

Re: Asterisk

May I ask what SIP softphone you are using and how satisfied you are with it? Is it a free softphone client or did it incur cost? I am hoping to get my company to front some money to build an asterisk box in our lab environment. The hardware requirements are low enough that I could put it on a standard desktop PC, so the only real cost would be an FXO or T1 card and any SIP endpoints. At the very least it will be a good educational project.

Re: Asterisk

Now we use CounterPath x-lite, a free softphone, but we have tested almost every free softphone, and a few hardphones; we prefer x-lite because of its quality and its auto-answer feature. Zoiper is also a good option. We begin testing with three cheap FXO cards from ebay four years ago, now we have these cards, and three digium cards, we decide to use Asterisk in production because we need a predictive dialer for a little campaign, and PDG was really expensive!.

Re: Asterisk

Speaking of Asterisk ... I'm setting it up to accommodate 4-6,000 voice mail accounts. Any thoughts on how I should size the system? I have it on a test server, but due to the need to spend down budgets, I need to buy a new system to go live within the next month. Any input greatly appreciated.

How many concurrent calls? T1 or SIP connection?

Re: Asterisk

Not sure how many concurrent calls, but I don't see that it could be more than 46. More likely about 10. All calls will be for leaving voice messages only, then an email notification will be sent to the voice mail subscriber.

Re: Asterisk

The only real limitation is the max number of concurrent calls; 46 is not a large number

Re: Asterisk

Unless your leaving 46 voice mails at the same time. thats a little bit of a hard drive task. But if 10 is your average yea thats nothing.
