Scam phone numbers

Does anyone know of a central listing of scam phone numbers and/or area codes that produce fraudulent charges? Just want to do some checking and blocking...

Thanks,

Re: Scam phone numbers

I've never heard of any such repository... and doubt one will ever be created because numbers can change too rapidly.

I generally rely on NANPA to verify area codes in the US/Canada/Bahamas.

Re: Scam phone numbers

One area code that historically was a source of a lot of abuse is 809 from the Dominican Republic and was frequently blocked. There are several other area codes that spun off from it, probably so they wouldn't be blocked. The other area codes are 264, 268, 284, 340, 441, 473, 664, 758, 767, 784, 868, and 876.

They might be ok, just keep a close eye on calls from or to 809. A good source for area code info is this one -

http://www.bennetyee.org/ucsd-pages/area.html

You also want to watch 900 and 976 calls. Not scams but bill at an inflated rate. Some 900 calls could be legit, Microsoft uses a 900 number for example, but calls to 976 are usually sex related. I recommend blocking 809 and 976 by default.
