Help to counter other systems being considered

I would like some feedback on sending the following to my manager in response to a new office opening in Italy and my VP brought up some IP system (non-Avaya) and a Siemen's system. We have Avaya systems in 12 US locations, G3si/Prologix and Octels, one Prologix and Octel in Ireland, and some scattered globally that don't have enough people yet to put in a system other than building provided (some just 2 people).

I want to express my concern that telephone systems other than Avaya are being considered for new/international offices.

We have a corporate standard in telephone systems, Avaya, just as we have in every other area. "XXX" would not easily consider the network being other than Masergy, the equipment being other than Cisco, or the desktop being other than Dell without compelling reasons. In order to bring new offices into our environment these standard must be adhered to. To do otherwise is to create unnecessary problems and support issues, lack of integration and communications.

Our investment in replacing every system with Avaya 4 years ago is fully capable of expanding to global networking and communications with many types and sizes of Avaya systems, ranging from 2 users to 100’s of users. To react quickly to global business needs, "XXX" needs a comprehensive telecom policy that doesn’t re-invent the wheel whenever a new office system is required

Re: Help to counter other systems being considered

One arguement that is usually successful is that you have a standard system that people know how to work on. If you introduce a nonstandard system, no one will know how to work with it. If it needs to be integrated into your network there might be compatibility issues and no one at the US locations is going to be able to help.

If someone got a good deal for a key system that supports 20 people and the office grows to 30 people, a forklift replacement might be required. I have seen that happen.

Besides, if they got an Avaya switch, you could volunteer to go to Italy and help set it up.:D
