Avaya remote monitoring

anyone here NOT use Avaya for remote monitoring? It looks like there are several of you that are running AlarmTraq, and I am currently evaluating it. We currently pay for remote-only support, which is a significant amount of money, and I am pondering dropping that support and bringing it in house, utilziing my knowledge and our help desk for monitoring.

Anyone doing something similar? Any horror stories? Success stories?

Re: Avaya remote monitoring

One thing to keep in mind when getting rid of Avaya support for alarm managment; you will also be losing the 24x7 coverage by folks that can fix the alarms rather quickly. Be sure to look through your resolved alarms to see how many alarms that are actually resolved without your knowledge.
If your operation is large enough, you may also consider another vendor for this type of support. Because we never stop working for you ;)

I use AlarmTraq and monitor many customers. I have my AlarmTraq server co-located at a service provider's NOC giving it maximum fault tolerance and I access it via VNC.

I think it's a great product. It has it's quirks, but it gets the job done. Jim Reilly is continuously updating the product and is very responsive to his customer's concerns.

You can't go wrong with AlarmTraq but if you're organization has reservations about maintaining it, I'll be happy to monitor your system(s).

regs,

I would second Al's endorsement of AlarmTraq. We use it to monitor many of our customers sites. It does have the ability to dial back into systems and issues test messages to clear some alarms which is nice.

Re: Avaya remote monitoring

There are a host of solutions out there, AlarmTraq is cheap, you buy an app and have it runing on a PC with a modem on it. In house hosted. Many other monitoring services are hosted solutions, they end up sending you the email. ReliaTel is one that comes to mind.
