Tie line between IP offices

Is it possible to connect 2 ip office's via a tie line? I have a point to point T1 and I plugged each end into the T1 card at each location and created a short code to dial on the appropriate line, but I was not able to get a call to go through. I had the lines set to E&M Tie and wink-start. I am trying this so I can avoid purchasing expensive VCM's.

Thanks
Mike

ive done this a few times.
make sure your short code is going out the proper trunk and the incoming routes are correct.

Re: Tie line between IP offices

I had a feeling the problem may have been in my short code... All of the extensions across the line are in the 800 range, so my short code had a number of 8XX with a feature of dial and the appropriate line. What am I missing? Would it be possible to send me a sample config?

Thanks

I dont have any configs on my local hard drive. I can get one.
The short code sounds ok. check the incoming call route form on the remote office. Make sure they are accepting the 8xx digits and routing them properly.

Shortcode of 8XX
Feature of Dial

Telephone number of 8N (not N).

If that doesn't solve it, it's probably in your line settings. BTW I would go back to back PRI instead of digital E&M. Are your units in the same building?

The units are not in the same building, they are about 15 miles apart. I have a point-to-point T1 that I want to use to connect them. Could you elaborate on 'Telephone number of 8N (not N)', I do not understand what that means.

If I were to use a PRI setting, would I have to set one system as CO and the other as CPE ?

Thanks

When you setup the shortcode 8XX, what did you put in the telephone number field? The short code dialog box should look like this:

Short code: 8XX
Telephone number: 8N
Line group ID: [the line group for your T1]
Feature: Dial
Locale: [blank]

To use PRI: I've not tried back to back over a CO supplied point to point, always done it with a crossover cable. However, the basic idea is setup both ends as required by the CO, but type "invert" in the telephone number field at one end.

Depends, if you are using CSUs then they can both be CO, the CSU will provide the necessary clocking
