Post Static in hold music.

IP Office 412 ver 3.0

Im not quite sure how to best describe it but, there is alot of 'static' in the hold music, i've checked the grounds and everything seems to be fine. I've replaced the cable from the machine to the 412.. even tried an mp3 player. I've ruled out machine because once you unplug the hold music and you just hear silence.. even that has alot of static.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

thanks

Re: Static in hold music.

If you are still hearing the static without any device plugged in, I would either guess that you should recheck the grounding or perhaps the MOH port is bad on the system.

Do you hear the static if you call in from another phone or an outside line? Maybe the phone you are testing from has some issues.

Re: Static in hold music.

We don't get any static on any of the calls.. just with the music on hold.
Checked the ground and everything appears to be fine.

Would I have to send the control module in to replace the moh?

Re: Static in hold music.

How old is the unit? Avaya has a good warranty, you could RMA it....

But yes, the only way to fix a problem with the MOH port is to replace the control unit.

Re: Static in hold music.

Call the Vendor that sold it to you. You can have it replaced.

Re: Static in hold music.

You can upload a music on hold wav file to the system instead of using the MOH port. The file is played in a loop. The file is uploaded when you run the manager program on your pc to admin the system. Check out this link support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/ip_office/jobaids/031_music_on_hold.pdf

Actually, if you watch monitor, every time you reboot the ipo, if the "use external music on hold" is not checked, it will look for the holdmusic.wav file.

Re: Static in hold music.

Hey, that static on hold thing, we had that for awhile, and it turned out that we were too close to a radio transmitter, that was causing interfearance WITHIN the phone system. We were able to fix this with a simple filter purchased for less than $20 from our local electronis supplier. However, if this is the case, you need to know what frequency you are filtering out. This filter worked well installed in series with the MOH unit, but still some static. We used it on the grounding wire for the MOH unit, and same results. But when we used it on the grounding wire for the phone system, no more static. Like you it did not affect our calls, just the music. Good Luck!

We are having the exact same problem with a Panasonic TDA50 system. Just so happens there is a radio tower two blocks away. What is the name of the filter you used? How did you determine the frequency you needed to filter?

Thx!

Re: Static in hold music.

Dumb question time.

How long has the static on hold music been an issue, and how long have you been sitting next to a radio tower? I can't imagine the tower went up after May.

You could have a grounding problem as rhys8582 vbmenu_register("postmenu_18141", true); mentionss. I would have a licensed electrician check out the power feed rather than just resorting to a 20 dollar radio shack solution since a power feed issue could cause more than just MoH problems - and could cost you more in the end because damage caused by improperly power/grounding is not covered under warranty.

Re: Static in hold music.

If I call an internal extention and put them on hold the music on hold sounds fine. But for outside callers it is muffled (like underwater) clips and has static. However voice quality is fine going out and VM prompts sound ok too. Just the MOH is poor quality going out, yet it sounds fine internally.

System is 2 weeks old.

I'm stumped.
