remote access

I have my IP office installed with a seperate PC with vm on it and the interfaces to administer both the vm and pbx. I want to be able to remote desktop to do administration.. right now nothing is connected to my network.

do I have to connect both the ip office and the vm pc to my network or do I have to connect the pc to the ip office and the ip office to the network or do I put in 2 network cards into the vm pc and have 1 to my network and the other directly connected to the ip office?

You basically only need Remote Desktop access to the VM server, but you will want your IP Office on the same network as your PCs if you install Phone Manager (Lite[free]/Pro/VoIP[iPro]) IP hard phones, or the Soft Console/eConsole.

Your PBX and VM server should have IP addresses and connectivity to your LAN that your PC are on. Was there a reason you didn't connect it originally? Most install techs should have set this up for you originally.

Re: remote access

In other words, just put one NIC in the VM PC and connect it to your network the way you would any other server on your network. Likewise, plug the IPO into the network as if it were a server too.

In a small network, this means everything plugs into the same switch and is assigned to the same IP subnet.

Then, as mentioned, you can open port 3389 in your firewall and direct it to the VM PC, and you'll be able to remote administer your entire telecom setup. I do this all the time and it's by far the easiest way to handle remote admin, IMHO.

Re: remote access

my business partner setup remote access to the IP Office via 1 of the CO lines I have going into the system. I have the management software on my laptop and want to test dialing in. What program should I be using to do the dialing? is it hyperterminal.. asa.. .. I have no idea.
