IP Office - 6402 Telephone Sets

I have an IP Office with 6402 Telephone sets. We installed it almost
two years ago. This customer had been told that the phones they have
are not supported by Avaya and wants all the phones replaced. Does
anyone know if there are known issues with the phones or why they are
not supported? They have a 406 v2.1(35). I contacted Avaya and they
told me they we not supported because they had not been tested. The
reason for not testing was because they did not think the sales of the
phones on a Global basis would be sucessful. Any input would be
greatly appriecated.

Unhappy Re: IP Office - 6402 Telephone Sets

This was originally an answer for a "why have my 4400's topped working question in Tek-Tips IP Office forum but it is applicable for the 6402 also.

Sadly the line from Avaya will be "6402 is not supported on IP Office". The IP Office has never officially supported that particular model so anything you've had out of it in the past has been fortunate circumstance.

3.0 adds a lot more usage of the programmable buttons, especially those with indicator lamps. As a result the IP Office core software has been tightened up on correctly identifying what type of phone is a port, in order to correctly know which buttons can be used for call appearances if required. It probably a consequence of that that the 6402 is not being "correctly" identified as not supported whereas in the past it was tolerated as just another DSP phone.
