Voicemail Pro frustrations.. Please help

Hello everyone,

My company uses IP Office to handle the phone systems. Lately, we have had the misfortune of Voicemail Pro crapping out on us. Last Tuesday, somehow, every employees saved voicemail messages were whiped from the server. We contacted our reseller and their answer was simply "its a known problem that happens, but we have no way of fixing it, or even preventing it". This is simply unacceptable, I cannot have employees being afraid of voicemail! Can any of you please direct me on a proper "best practice" approach to running our IP Office system? Whats a solid production environment config? Below is the specs of our setup.

IP Office Manager v3.0
IP Office 403 Hardware
Voicemail Pro v3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 box (Sun V20z, dual opterons, 2 gig of ram).

I'd like to note that when the Voicemail Pro software is ran, the welcome screen displays garbled/unreadable symbols. To me, this is also unacceptable.

I config'd a new server to run Voicemail Pro for us, for now. Its an XP box, but the same welcome screen error comes up.

I also created a batch script that moves anything in the /Accounts/ folder to a diff folder on the harddrive.

Any support would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We've installed all of our VM Pro installations on Windows XP Pro SPII with no issues. Our VM Pro has been running for over 18 months and never lost a message.

If this is a known problem ( messages being whipped out), no one has told me. cpF

If you are having "grabled" junk on your welcome screen with 2 seperate installations it sounds more like a bad installation CD. Request a new CD or download it from Avaya website

I had the same symptoms, especially the symbols. Finally figured out it was from doing the install using remote desktop. Question them and see if they are doing the same.

Re: Voicemail Pro frustrations.. Please help

Never heard of lost messages like this, and we have several hundred sites.
Normally the opposite, where extensions get notified of new messages that were actually old ones. Occurs after PC reboot, and editing the accounts fixes it.

Suspect install may be using non-default folders, possibly 2 different account folder locations?. Have seen a similar thing with greetings/system wav files. Empty accounts for all users will be automatically created on VM Pro startup if they don't exist in the expected folder.

Have also seen the corrupt splash screen from remote desktop installation.

Use a tool called radmin.

It is great.

It is like PC anywhere, but cheaper, and works a hell of a look better.

www.radmin.com.

I use it on all of my installs, gets away from the Remote desktop crap.

FYI

I have a question about radmin. Is it better than VNC? VNC is hard to use because of the lag.

A whole lot better. The only problem is that you need to reduce the screen refreshes from 100 to 10. With win2k and win2k3, it maxes the processor.

With 3.0 it should be fixed. 3.0 radmin is coming out this year.

There is a 30day free download to try.

Works great.

Re: Voicemail Pro frustrations.. Please help

I have frequently seen the welcome screen errors and have not been able to track the cause of the problem. I think it only occurs on XP. I have also had a customer who lost all of their voicemail messages. Bottom line: IP Office is great, but it is not a 100% stable platform yet. If you don't have some tolerence for flaky behavior, at this point, IP Office is not for you.

Re: Voicemail Pro frustrations.. Please help

I would agree but there are things you can do that help. Like only using Win2k or Win2k3 server. And only using HP servers, that avaya has certified. Believe that alone helps quite a bit. Also the design process has to be in place. Sales people can't be the designers... Just doesn't work.

Re: Voicemail Pro frustrations.. Please help

The garbled display on the splash screen is caused by not having the screen colur depth set high enough.

Why this doesnot work with a 256 colour display is beond me but if you change the preferences to a true colour mode (24 bit) then the display is fixed

Lost messages?, I have never seen this on an IPO VM are you sure that noone has been playing with the houskeeping deletion times?

"Large fonts" - switch it off.

Re: Voicemail Pro frustrations.. Please help

The garbage on the screen is due to the fonts on the computer. I have seen this quite often.
Wav's that were disappearing in the original problem, there was a windows virus that came out a long time ago that deleted wav files.
Also wondering if the batch file that was created cuts all the waves instead of copying them?
