Avaya network issues
I have communication issues with the Avaya , I get slow config downloads, sometimes it won't load back and corrupts the config on the Avaya so I have to upload the config. I also get packet loss when I ping the avaya. This happens a few times a week if I make several changes to the config (new Directory numbers etc)
I'm not sure if this is related but I get voicemails recorded that sound like a CD that is skipping or a clipped message that misses words. I have Avaya IP403 v2.1 (27) Manager 4.1 (15) Voicemail Pro v2.1 (5) We are running a 10mb lan, but it's not heavily utilised, ping times are always <10ms Any help would be greatly appreciated. Our supplier suggested patching the voicemail server through the lan ports on the avaya, but we also use this as a file server (with no problems, 2gb memory 4 XEON processors)) so I don't want to do this; if it's the Avaya having the networking issues. Regards Tony |

Re: Avaya network issues
I see two problems! You upgraded the firmware on your switch but you didnt upgrade your Manager software or your voicemail pro software. You need 4.1.27 of manager and at least 2.1.13 of VM Pro. As a common practice I would always connect my voicemail server directly to my IP Office and then use another port to connect the corporate LAN that way the IP Office and voicemail can talk at 100 MB. and they would still be able to talk to the rest of the network at 10MB. Avaya suggests 100 / half for the voicemail NIC so this is probably the source of your ugly sounding voicemails. The switch on the IP403 is fairly decent switch so its to your advantage if you use it.
Hope this helps! |

Re: Avaya network issues
Hi
thanks for this information. I will look at bringing the versions up to date. Also I will install the voicemail on a seperate box (probably Windows 2000 or XP Pro) and connect directly to a 100mb port Would the version issue cause network problems on the Avaya thanks tony |

Re: Avaya network issues
Im guessing that using a 10MB port is going to be the source of your problem. Just as a rule of thumb you should always use the right software with the firmware you are using. Connecting your server directly to the IP Office will definitely improve your speeds. Your server seems robust enough and if you connect it to the IP Office you will still be able to connect to it from the rest of the network. This configuration will eliminate any issues that may be caused by your corporate network.
