VoIP & IPO
We have an installation over 3 sites with 1 IPO403 & 2 IP Small Office boxes. They have VoIP via ADSL.
The VoIP is up and running but we've had to install VoIP phones to get any real PBX fuctionality (Hunt Groups etc). One thing we wanted to do was to use the VoIP for outgoing calls if local lines were busy i.e.remote site 1 has 1 analogue line & VoIP. If the analogue line was in use and a user wants to make a call the second call would use the VoIP and utilise an outgoing line on the HQ IPO. Is there any way of doing this using analogue or DS phones plugged into the IPSO? If we use a VoIP phone will this be able to utilise the local analogue line? Sorry for all the questions but I can't get any answers from Avaya or our Distie on this & wondered if anyone had a similar setup??? Many thanks Ruth |

Re: VoIP & IPO
If the IP hardphones are pointed at the SOE, you can program LCR to accomplish this. Set it up so the main route is your local trunks, and the alternate route is the h.323 trunks.

Re: VoIP & IPO
Hi Peter,
wow, a positive response!!!!! Sorry to seem a bit blonde but I've not really done anything with call routing to date. Does this get set up at the HQ IPO, the IPSO or both? I'm assuming both as the IPSO will need to be told to reroute the call if the local line is busy and the HQ IPO will need to know to receive the call via VPN & then route through a local line. I can see how this might work at the local site with LCR but not sure what would be needed with at the HQ end. Also, can this be done with standard POTS phones conected atthe remote site or would they need IP phones? If we can get this to work it will open up a whole new area for VoIP!! Ta muchly Ruth |

Re: VoIP & IPO
basic call routing 101
Each "line" (Alog, Isdn or VoIP) on the system has an outgoing group id, by using a diferent value for each calls can be routed to diferent lines. example: Switch 1 ISDL = 0 Voip = 1 Switch 2 ISDN =0 VoIP=1 I will assume that you usualy use a 9 to access local external lines. to make a call on switch 1 that dials out on the isdn at switch 2 cheate a shortcode similar to the following son switch 1 SC 8N TN 9N Line Group 1 Feature Dial Dialing 8<number> at site 1 will send 9<number> accros the Voip link to switch 2 Switch 2 will then process the incommig call in the normal way & dial out on its own lines. variation on this will enable you to make calls from IPO-IPO, pstn-remote IPO & remote IPO-pstn regardelss of phone type

Re: VoIP & IPO
Ruthie, you shouldn't need to do anything at HQ. When you setup your shortcodes on the SOE to dialout over the h.323 trunks, just insert a 9 before the number dialed. You are then transmitting 9+tel number to the IPO at HQ, which will process it the same as a local user dialing 9+ tel number.
Same concept as TIE lines, if you've ever worked with them. Peter |
