VM Pro losing License Information

Have just installed IP Office with Voicemail Pro as Auto Attendant. Using USB Dongle for licence information. The system keep losing licence information with no set pattern. (best it has ran is for about 18 hours.) Restarting Key Server sorts it out but obviously not the answer. Any suggestions

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

You are not alone. We have a 406 and a 403at remote office. V2.1, USB dongles. The licence becomes invalid and can be okay for days then be lost 3 or 4 times a day. Sorry i don't have a fix but i'll be interested to see if anyone else is having same problem.

We have 416 and 406 at remote site. Tried upgrading to 2.1.24 today but looks like the problem is still there. Changed the voicemail PC just to eliminate it, but still failed so its not that.

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

make sure that the customer does not have an old copy of the V2.0 Manager

If changes are made with V2.0 & merged to the system it will show all licences as invalid.

Hi. We carried out a few test yesterday. We took down one of our servers which has a dongle in it for our remote site. We completely took it off the network for over two hours yet the Avaya system did not lose it's licence. I was under the impression that the system checked for a licence every few minutes but this is obviosusly not the case. Does anyone know how often it checks for a licence?

Hi,

I've no experience of this problem, however may I suggest you try the following:
1) Open Device Manager
2) Expand 'Universal Serial Bus controllers'
3) Open the hub that the dongle is attached to
a) (if you don't know which this is you can click View > Devices By Connection and expand each branch)
4) Right-click the hub and select Properties
5) Click the Power Management Tab
6) Untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
7) Click OK
8) Repeat steps 3-7 for the dongle it's self (not sure what the device name is though)

Basically it's possible that power management is kicking in and cutting power to the hub and/or dongle.
This should stop that from happening (and it's better than adjusting power properties in Control Panel or the BIOS).

It's possible that as the dongle is powered down it sends a signal to say it's been removed.

This is all theory and has a fairly low chance of success, but probably worth trying...

Cheers,

Dave.

All i know is the Voicemail will run for 2 hours without a licence before it stops completely, The operators console will not start without one.

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

Wait a second - the site that keeps losing its licences - you have the dongle for those licences installed on the far side of a WAN connection?

That is likely the problem. Try to get the dongle installed at the same location as the IPO in question. You need only install the feature key server software on that PC, and change the IP address of the feature key server in the IPO.

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

Both sites lose their licence not just the remote one so it can't be to do with where the dongle is located.

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

Verify that each IPO is pointing to the feature key server PC you think it is. I would still get the dongles at each local site in case of WAN problems.

And make sure, as IPGuru mentioned, that there are no rogue 2.0 manager applications anywhere that might be used by the customer to make changes with. You may want to change the system passwords to make sure of this - wait for someone to pop up and say "Hey how come I can't use this old copy of manager to change my monitoring group anymore?" or some such thing.

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

I have seen this problem. One fix was to update the drivers for the dongle.
see: http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/downloads.asp
Sentinal SuperPro Medic will check the health of the dongle
Sentinal System Driver is the driver for the IP Office Dongle
Has worked three times for me (different clients)

Best Wishes,

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

My only concern with these USB dongles is that you could try 2/3/4 different PC's but how many PCs run the same Motherboard drivers for USB controllers etc, The answer alot. It could be a flaw here and nothing to do with the IP office what so ever.
Actually seeing a system loose the liscence (Becoming Invalid) The Key Service does not stop via looking in the Event Viewer In XP. It would be ideal to find wether this problem is coming from the PC side or the IP Office.

It is interesting seeing there are updated drivers for the dongle as I remember seeing that the PC had issues installing/finding the driver for the dongle when first installed on some of my installs.

Re: VM Pro losing License Information

The parallel port dongle made no difference as it lost the licence information this morning. The voicmail server is connectd directly into the IPO and there are only 2 other Pc's one with the console and the other on my desk for updating information. It sits on it own dedicated Lan with a dedicated fibre to the remote site via VCM 20 Modules.
The key server does not stop running so far as event viewer is concerned but restarting makes the licenses valid again
The plot thickens.......
