Question Need Help Desperately - 2420 Display Labels

We are in the middle of an install and the customer is not happy that the display buttons on the 2420 phones have illogical descriptions on them - such as "dial *09" - according to the customer / and I have to agree, this seems to take them a step back in technology as their current system allows them to appropriately name the buttons.

I have heard with 3.0 they will be able to do this - which is supposedly coming out in November, but I had read a threat a while back that mentioned a work around by loading certain firmware. Can any one elaborate or help?? My customer is going crazy.

Thanks.

Re: Need Help Desperately - 2420 Display Labels

I believe I heard the same rumour about R3 having this ability. I feel your pain - I too have a client with 2420's and the same complaint. As far as I'm aware there is no way to change the display labelling on a 2420 when it is connected to an IP Office. Although this is available when it's connected to a multivantage, apparently, we don't get to use this feature yet.

Re: Need Help Desperately - 2420 Display Labels

We are having some issues like this with the 4620 display labels also. Whenever possible, we are using the feature, picked from a menu (ala VoiceMailCollect - which shows up as VMCol) rather than using *17 for example.

In some cases there may not be a workaround. But most of the descriptions are meaningful.

Re: Need Help Desperately - 2420 Display Labels

I'm using CM R13.1.1 If you configure commonly used buttons in the System Speed dial list (ch abb sys) you can "name" the button in the right column and the name will appear on the 2420 when translated.

For other than System Speed dial entries such as busy lamps, the button labels are easily changed on each phone. Use the "Label" soft key on the phone and follow the prompts.

Check your firmware version on the 2420 !
