Question Manager cannot see the Control Unit

I connected IPO304 with my laptop through LAN. The UPLINK port 8 with button out is used to plug into wall. But the IPO manager cannot see the control unit. I have confirmed it is connected to LAN.

It works when I connect it to my laptop directly. I have tried to configure it. Everything works fine.
Then I want to try it on LAN; therefore, I erase config and connect to my Laptop through LAN. But the manager cannot see it.

There are several IP Office available on LAN. Using Manager I can three, but mine does not show up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Why are you erasing the config?? Describe your LAN environment - is there a DHCP server? What domain are you running on? Are there multiple domains with routers? How about your laptop? When you erase the 403's config and plug it into the LAN, it will look for a DHCP server and go into client mode if it finds one (in theory), otherwise it will go to 192.168.42.1 and act as a DHCP server.

Configure the 403 with your laptop connected directly, configuring the IP settings as required to plug it into your LAN. Then, DO NOT erase the config, just connect the uplink.

Oh yeah - you want the 403 set to a static IP address.

Yeah, I think the control unit either getting an IP address from exisiting DHCP server or acts as a DHCP server. In either way, should I be able to find it using my laptop?

You mean I should configure IP settings before plugging into LAN?

If I set a static IP address to the control unit, it will not contact DHCP server to lease one, right?

Thanks. I am totally pissed off !

Your are correct. Configure the IP settings statically to what you want them to end up as when connected to the LAN, and then plug the unit into the LAN. Pick an IP address that is in the DHCP servers reserved range (ie it won't attempt to give that IP to anyone else).

You really want a static IP address for both the IP403 and the VMS server. That way, you know where to point applications like Phone Manager, and what TFTP address to use for hardphones.
