Password Recovery

Trying to log (back) into a IP403 System Server. Had to reinstall Manager on a seperate computer to get back the default password, but stuck when trying to access the config file from the server itself. Is there any way to recover the password? Do I have to go in through the DTE port? I'm more of a windows guy, but I've been 'expanded' to this as well, so it's a little new to me. Any comments or suggestions would be very appreciated. I've heard of a Job Aid for DTE Maintenance, but haven't been able to locate it yet.

Re: Password Recovery

The thing you need to know about using the DTE port to reset the unit is that you **will loose all configuration on the unit**. It resets the unit to factory defaults. So make sure you have a backup of the configuration first. Then if you look at the thread "unable to administer unit" about 3-4 threads back, there is a link to the DTE maintence job help.

Re: Password Recovery

Do you have a config file from this IPO? The machine that was being used to manage the system should have a copy of the config in the manager directory - if not a current .cfg file check for the most recent .bak file. Then use snadboys revelation (do a google search) to reveal the system password.

yea, just did that, got the password, but it doesn't work. I may have to use the DTE reset method. not looking forward to it. Thanks for the help though. Guess they need better password management.

Re: Password Recovery

Do you use DHCP on the IP-Office or is it of.
Can you ping the ip-office from your Manager PC.
Are you sure the prefferenced IP-Adres in the manager is right.
Or are you sure it,s the password.
:(

Don't fret, all is not lost. You have a recent copy of the config, this is very good news! Even though the password has been changed, you can still reload that config into the switch. Yes, you will have to use the DTE port default procedure, but then you will have a clean IPO that you know the password to. You can then upload any config you want to that defaulted unit - including your (fairly) recent config file which you know the password for. When it prompts for the password enter the default one, not the one in the config file. Next time in use the password from the config file.
