Re: IP412 as Internet router/firewall
I have a Small office edition performing exactly that task
the IPO does not support PPoE (yet) so the exact connection between lan2 & the internet may need som additional equipment, min is connected directly to a cable modem. Threre are still a few errors in the IPO NAT routines so some things may not work fully. (I cannot connect to our corporate network using symanecks VPN software), Hopefully this will be fixed in V3.0 it is worth considering that a broadband router (adsl or cable) can be pruchased for as little as £25.00, and can be made to work with ALL models of IPO.

Re: IP412 as Internet router/firewall
I'd like to see PPPoE support, for sure. Would also be nice to ditch the basically useless built in v.35 WAN port in favour of an ethernet WAN port on the 403 & 406, same as the SOE and 412 have. In the rare circumstance I might want a v.35 port I'd be happy to buy a WAN3 module.

Re: IP412 as Internet router/firewall
I guess this is another US thing, we have a reasonable number of sites that actualy use the wan port, although most do use thier existing network which causes more hasstle (qos issues etc)

Re: IP412 as Internet router/firewall
With that said, have any of you implemented VoIP ?
We have a mid-sized local network (about 50 users), and are connected to the Internet via T1 with the IP412 sitting on the side. We also have a call center connected via a PTP, and another office coming on-line in the next couple of months. If it would hold up, I'd like to see us use the IPO box right at the point of entry so that we could utilize VoIP for our remote offices. Seems like it would work great, but I'm afraid of it bogging under the load. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance! |

Re: IP412 as Internet router/firewall
I suspect your biggest problem would be Quality as the internet dowes not offer any Qos.
You would also be well advised to check you routing carefully to prevent any unauthorised access. Talking of unauthorised access, Have you managed to Hack mine yet peter?
