IP Office API programming
Hi,
I'm planning on writing an application to show the number of calls currently on hold for a group as an icon in the system tray. I'm guessing this would entail either trapping information sent from the IP406 unit (such as that viewed in the SYSMONITOR application), or interrogating the IP406 for this information. To save me time, does anyone know of any applications that already offer this (or similar) behaviour, or which APIs or packets I need to use/read ? If I get it working from help I've received from this forum I'll gladly make it available for all to use (it'll be perfect for our call centre staff). NB - We're currently using software version 1.4 as I've been told 2.x is unstable - would anyone recommend we upgrade ? Thanks, Dave C. |

Re: IP Office API programming
Sure, I'll take that leap and recommend you upgrade to 2.1
Why are you going to the trouble to do this? Why not use Phone Manager to view the calls in Q? Or put CBC on a PC with a video out card and connect to a large screen TV viewable by your group? Or better still go for CCC and PC (or physical) wallboards and get EVERYTHING :) Peter |

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the advice. I'll have a word with our supplier about upgrading (it was they that advised to wait for it to ‘prove it’s self’). Believe me, I'd love to use Phone Manager, but the powers that be are not convinced of it's true value ; it is perceived as a 'toy'. I may challenge this as I’ve been told (here we go again) that with 2.1 it's even more important to use Phone Manager. Is this true ? Can you use Phone Manager 1.4 to view a queue ? (I have it on my PC but haven't seen that option – maybe it’s because we don’t have voicemail pro?). We do have CBC and CCC but haven't had a chance to set them up yet. I ran CCC (Delta Server) on our Voicemail ‘server’ PC, but after a few weeks it started using all free CPU time bringing the machine to a crawl. I’ll give it another go and check the log settings. I guess maybe I can interrogate this to get the data for my systray app. As we're moving buildings soon I don’t want to spend time setting up a wallboard only to have it taken down again shortly afterwards. The layout of our sales team (and technical who would also need to see the queue) means we'd need more than one wallboard as well. It seems that a couple of evenings development on an icon would be a better use of my time and easier for the users (and loads of fun to create). Time to delve into the SDK methinks ! I’ll keep you posted (pun intended 8'D). Dave. |

Re: IP Office API programming
Dave,
There are two versions of Phone Manager. The "Lite" version - which is free of cost - provides some basic call control but does not include the option to view a queue. The "Pro" version - which has a per-seat cost associated - builds on the Lite version and includes -among many other things - the ability to monitor a queue. We also had the issue with Delta server and an upgrade to a later version of the Delta Server application totally fixed the trouble. It was definitely NOT an interaction with Voicemail Pro. I agree with Peter, try the Phone Manager Pro and see if it does the trick. At $150/seat +/-, its gotta be way cheaper than developing your own thing. Good luck. Mike |

Re: IP Office API programming
And I'll second mforrence again (boy aren't we agreeable eh?)
One thing in your post - you equated CCC with delta server. That combined with stating that you have CBC makes me suspect you don't have CCC at all. Delta server is delta server whether you're using it to collect data for the CBC app or the CCC app. CBC is a few hundred bucks, CCC is about $6000 just to get started. If you have CBC physical wallboards aren't an option - go with a video out card to a large screen TV and maximize the CBC window. If you really do have CCC, check out PC Wallboards instead - they can do some truly amazing things that will blow your mind. Oh, on the Phone Manager is a toy statement - with the Pro version you can screen pop contacts from Outlook, Goldmine, or ACT (or MS-CRM with a diff licence) on incoming calls. Very very valuable CRM tool. Cheers, Peter |

Re: IP Office API programming
Phomne Manager:
PM is quite usefull although if you have digital handsets it is not as important ( I have a PM pro licenced at home but can live without it) If you only have POTS then PM is almost indispensible. as for V2.1 - & V2.0 they seem as stable as any other release, there are a few known issuse in both but none of them are poarticularly major. If you make a lot of moves & changes then 2.1 is definitly woth the upgrade as useres & huntgfroups are now fully mergable. It is woth noting the Proteus Office (call logger) will not work with V2.1 although they are working on a fix. |
