Question How difficult is the installation of (VAL) circuit pack (TN2501AP)

We are planning to purchase the LAN (VAL) circuit pack (TN2501AP) announcement board. How difficult is the installation of these cards? Would this installation require a Avaya technician? And if it can be done without a technician what kind of programming needs to be done?

Installing the circuit pack itself is not difficult. But you have to have the IP address, subnet and gateway ready beforehand. Also, you need to install VAL Manager, which allows you to access the announcements on the VAL board.

Make sure the circuit pack you have has a firmware version 7 or above. We recently had to download a patch to bring our boards up to .7 because of a potential date failure come 01/01/04.

The most important thing with the VAL board is that the name in the switch has to match the name in the VAL Manager EXACTLY, or the announcement won't play. Also, the VAL Manager doesn't allow spaces, so the title of your announcement has to be one continuous string. For example - First_Agent_Queue.

We did ours without a technician. You will need to program the ip address on node-names ip and the subnet mask on ip-interfaces. When you install the VAL manager software, the ip address it asks for is for the CLAN card, not the VAL card. If you want it, I can send you the documentation I put together for installation of the VAL. sgennett@standard.com

Installation:
Place card in vacant slot and ehternet/amphenol adapter on back. Connect a live 100Mbps ethernet cable into the adapter.

Programming for VAL Manager connectivity:
1) change node-names ip ... give the board it's name and IP address
2) change ip-interfaces ... specify VAL, the node-name you gave it in step 1, the gateway, Subnet Mask, and Network reigon. If unsure, leave at 1 or choose an unused reigon. Be sure to leave the "ON" or active indication set to NO.
3) add data-module x (where x is a valid extension number or the word "next"). Type = ethernet, port = port 33 of the slot where you placed the board (i.e. 01A0533).
4) change ethernet-options (R11) and lock the port at 100Mbps/Full Duplex.
5) change ip-interfaces and set the "ON" or active indication to "YES"

Testing for VAL Manager connectivity:
ping ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx board PPCSS (Port/Carrier/Slot of the VAL) repeat 5 ... I like to ping the gateway address for testing because if the board can't see the gateway then you won't be able to see the board outside of the local subnet.

regs,

.al.

VAL manager uses the CLANS to lookup the VAL board locations as well as enable the FTP service on the VAL boards. so I dont know how you are actually logging onto the VAL boards. I guess you can manually enable the FTP stuff...
