Question Lineside T1/PRI RAS server connection

I have a customer who would like to connect his G3SI running V11 to his RAS server via lineside T1/PRI . The primary use would be for a inbound dial-up modem pool.

Does anyone out there have any real world experience in the area? Can this be easly done?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

Well, a lot depends on the RAS T1 card ... which will likely not be PRI but plain vanilla T1 (b8zs/esf or d4/ami). That card must support the incoming modems ... i.e. does it have 24 modems onboard associated with the 24 channels of the T1? If so, then you're in business.

You would create 24 stations of type DS1FD using the 24 ports of the DS1 card. Then place the 24 stations into a hunt group. Make the Hunt Group extension number a DID number and you should be good to go.

Re: Lineside T1/PRI RAS server connection

We have a Cisco RAS solution (basically a router with a t1 card/software). I have to PRIs running to the router and use the UDP table to route calls down w/ ANI. Can't help you much with the Cisco configs...

The Server card that my network folks are inquiring on is a product manufactured by EICON
Its called the DIVA SERVER T1/PRI. This solution was to allow us to have a V.90 connection capability to our RAS server. This server card does have 24 modems on board. I don't think we would be using all channels of the PRI. The balance would be OOS. Just wanted to make sure before i give my blessing to them that we woul;d support this, that it could be done.

Re: Lineside T1/PRI RAS server connection

to get a v.90+ connection you need to install it as a PRI. I have never installed a DIVA but I have done this to quite a few dialog cards. no problem. I can paste a T1 or PRI configuration if you need.

WARNING FLAG: A trip to the EICON website reveals that the DIVA SERVER T1/PRI base model does not support V.90. However, it looks like the DIVA SERVER T1/PRI-24M supports 24 modem sessions meaning that PRI may not be a requirement with this model. There are also 4M and 8M models so the warning here would be to alert your customer to purchase the right card with the right options.

Here's where I went looking at EICON: http://www.eicon.com/worldwide/products/MediaGateways/m-l_business.htm

Also, have your customer take a look at the PRI version. E1 is easy to do (I can help you with that if necessary), E1 can be accomplished on the same TN464F/GP you were going to use on the T1 model and with E1 you gain an additional 6 lines (30 instead of 24). There appears to be a DIVA SERVER PRI 30M which would likely support 30 simultaneous V.90 RAS connections.

Finally, if your customer requires ANI or DNIS for security then we can still do that as stated above in stubborn's by using the UDP & AAR tables, Trunk Groups, and Route Patterns ... but if they're just looking for inbound connectivity (ring followed by modem answer) then the DS1 station and hunt group plan I originally spoke of is easiest.

Let us know how it's going.
