We would like to play prerecorded messages in case of emergency situations. Currently we dial the TAC code with port number to access the Bogen paging system and then select the zone(s). Anyone have any ideas on how to then play a prerecored message? Different approch, vectors, etc??
Thanks! |

What we do is to have an "emergency" skill, like skill 666. Then in every vector there is a line after the time-of-day check steps that says 'goto step x if staffed agents in skill 666 > 0', where step x is a line that says 'disconnect after announcement 66666'. Then if we have an emergency, we staff some one in the "emergency" skill 666 and every incoming call will get played the emergency message and then droppped.
Not sure if that's what you were referring to, but hope that helps in what you were looking for. |

Thanks for that. We use the same for Emergency and Holiday (still v8, will be MV1.3 soon)
Actually the annuncements would be for over the PA system. Would like security to play the prerecorded message when required. |

How would you trigger the need to play the announcement? Security? Are you stating that some person would manually start the pre-recorded message? If that's the case, you could hook up the sound card of a PC in security to an analog phone via a Plantronix MX-10 hedset amplifier, use Vox Studio 3 (software: http://www.xentec.be/download/download.html) to record both the DTMF tones to access the paging TAC and Zone(s) and the announcement itself into a wave file. The security personnel would then take the analog phone off hook and execute the .WAV file.
I use Vox Studio 3 in demo mode to record DTMF tones for auto-attendant *T transfers into .wav files and ftp to VAL, but it's intended purpose is to "allow rapid recording and editing of thousands of voice files using a Windows PC equipped with a standard sound card." Sounds like just the ticket.

Started to play with it. Is the demo limited to x length for recording time?
Looks like I will order the mx-10. was going to try a rig up an old m10. Just too much of a pain. What type of mic do you use? I am using a Labtec headset/mic and it is hard to get good audio quality consistantly. Thank you again! |

The demo version is limited to 5 secs of record time. I only use it to generate DTMF .wav files and they typically run about 2.5 seconds.

Have the MX10 now. Created the .wav files, just cant seem to get it to work consistantly. The DTMF access the Bogen, but the adio doesn't always play.... I wonder if I am overdriving the audio?
I messed with it for about 5 hours the other night. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any words of knowledge? |

Try lengthening the duration of the tones as well as the spaces between the tones. You'll find the settings under Tools -> Defaults -> DTMF.

I have used Viking Digital Announcer for that feature. You can have eight recorded messages that will repeat as many times as you program. The out put of the unit goes to the input of your amp.
The each announcement can be triggered with analog line ringing or a contact closure from a Viking LDB-3 loop detector. go to Vikingelectronic.com for other ideas. |
