Post Conference/Speaker Telephone

Is anyone using the Polycom SoundStation Premier 500D/550D conferencing telephone which attaches directly to the Avaya Definity? Or, some other type of conferencing device? If so, I would like any comments that you have about these devices.

Curious - does this hook up to a analog or digital port?

the 500D/550D is designed for a meridian pbx, not the avaya system, I checked the web site for polycom...

I went to the Polycom website in June and printed out the specifications for SoundStation Premier 500D/550D. It clearly states that it's compatible with any Definity voice port that supports the 6400, 7400 or 8400 series phones (except the CallMaster series).
If what Tele234 states is true, then the specifications paper that I have is very misleading, in that it really doesn't work with an Avaya Definity System.

Thanks for the information. I went to the Polycom site and searched for the SoundStation Premier, and they still have the PDF paper on the Avaya system as well. So, it looks as though this unit will also work with the Avaya Definity system.

I have a new 550D that I bought for temporary deployments, and I can't keep it in my office. Everyone loves it. You can plug an 8400 or 6400 set in in-tandem with it to get features such as directory or speed dial. Highly recommended!

Thanks for your response.
Did you have to program anything on the switch to get this to work, or did you simply plug it into one of the 8400 or 6400 telephone sets?

Just plug it in. There is a short initialization, then it's on. Just remember it will only work with a 2 wire DCP port. There is a port on the interface module to attach your DCP, as an option.

Re: Conference/Speaker Telephone

Hi everyone. I have a Polycom 550D and plugged it into my digital port, but it just sits there with the "Initializing" status and never gets past that stage. Has anyone experienced this and come up with a solution? I have an older G3Si difinity switch and 8410D stations. Polycom's manual and Polycom support says the 550D should work, but was wondering if there was something else that I'm missing?

Thanks!

Re: Conference/Speaker Telephone

make sure you got the right phone- there's one model for Nortel digital integrations, and another for Avaya.

these models have different digital phone emulation interfaces - if you have the wrong one, it would be like connecting a meridian phone to an avaya pbx.
