What an alarm means
I had a power down this weekend and on the powerup I receive a minor alarm. When I do a disp alarm the alarm just says 01 POWER.. called Avaya and they said it's some battery that gives like 10 mins of backup power. Is anyone familiar with this ?? If so is it something that can wait till Friday evening to have replaced or is this a vital thing for the switch?

Re: What an alarm means
01 POWER means a power problem in cabinet 1 (port network 1). Since I have no idea what your cabinet 1 (PPN for traditional PBX) consists of I can't be specific. If everything is working then it probably is what Avaya told you. If it is a traditional cabinet, it is possible that the batteries were drained and are being recharged now. If that is the case, then the alarm will clear in a couple days.
But if everything is working you will probably be ok until Friday.

Re: What an alarm means
Depending on what switch you have it's probably just the hold over battery..Avaya say's 10 min's? it's more like 10 sec's..your switch will run forever without it not a big deal really..especially if you have a UPS on the system...Like Martin said sometimes after about 48 hours they will recharge and the alarm will go away.....

Re: What an alarm means
Just to clarify, the batteries hold the switch up by allowing a consistent power level.
If Test Enviroment 1 fails test 5 Aux code 8 ( typicall), this means your batteries are in High Discharge mode. As others have said, this will self correct. I have never seen one clear in 10 minutes, but it should inside of 24 hours or you have a battery charger issue. Replacing the charger, FYI, is not service impacting. |

Re: What an alarm means
Yea i've had the alarm since Sunday so I'm assuming it isn't going away and the test environment did fail exactly as you indicated above.
So this definitely isn't service affecting when the part gets replaced?? |

Re: What an alarm means
You still have not told us what your cabinet 1 is. If it is an MCC, that is the easiest one to change. The 397 charger and the batteries in the cage near it can be replaced without any service impact, just make sure to turn the 397 off before unplugging the AC from it.
The alarm will not clear right away because the new batteries will need to charge up.

Re: What an alarm means
It is an MCC. I received this heavy box which seems like a battery and then another box which I'm assuming is the charger. The tech called and said it could be service affecting but she's coming in today to survey the MCC and will tell me right away if it will be or not.

Re: What an alarm means
One box will contain the 397 battery charger and the heavy box will have the three batteries. I have replaced all or some of these parts many times and have never brought a switch down.
