Not sure what you are trying to accomplish but the room field is one of the fields that you can use to get a report in ASA.

You will need to make an entry in that field and when you reassign it to a person delete the entry.

Re: track spare phones left on desk

Marty, I've wondered about something but never took the time to see how it could work to my advantage to track a phone location... I use the Room field to put in the cost center when I set up a new user. ASA exports this field into eCAS and it is used to allocate a user/ext to a cost center. When I do a dup station and enter the number in that field the system tells me that this data could be overwritten by TTI (I believe).

When a phone is TTI'd I have seen that it wipes out this field. I understand that it knows that the phone location has moved and is this just a type of "flag" that the Room field is blank or, is there any way during TTI, or other codes, to assign a new Room from the phone itself?

All of my phones in empty locations are named *LOC Dept (LOC is the 3 letter name for the office like CHI for Chicago) so that I can sort them easily and tell just from the name in eCAS where the phone is. I would like to know what office number or cubicle but, phones move too much for manually entered data to stay current for long.

Re: track spare phones left on desk

Sha111, I do not know enough about your config (or release) to be specific but if your remote switch is a PBX by itself you can go to the time-of-day fields to change normal operation. If it is an EPN then it becomes a little more complicated.

Penelope, I do not know any way to populate that field except manually. I also do not know if TTI will leave some of those optional fields alone. You could try this, fill every one of those fields with the same data then TTI the phone and see if any of the fields are left alone.

It would be nice to have data you could use but I also have people that move around a lot. I frequently get calls from an administrative assistant telling me that John Smith is moving and needs his phone moved. He now sits next to Mary Jones and is moving over by Sam Ryan.

I have three two story buildings here that each are larger than a football field and that location info is useless. I need jack numbers, if there was a field that did not blank out I could start putting jack info in it.

Re: track spare phones left on desk

TTI tracks Site Data based on the circuit pack port. If a station is TTI'd off one port and onto another it assumes the Site Data of the new port AND the site data from the old port will be assigned to the next station to be TTI'd to that port.

Try using ASA to run a report and save as a delimited file, bring into Excel or Access and verify current site data. Make it the way you want. Stations can then be updated using Excel and ASA Import.

Once you have all ports/stations with valid Site Data, turn TTI off in system features, then status tti repeatedly until 100% off. Then turn it back on and again status until 100%. Now you have valid Site Data on all connected ports. Next time you move a jumper or install/remove a circuit pack, turn TTI off before making the change/addition and turn back on afterwards.

I presented this at INAAU in Seattle a few years ago. If you have specific problems, send me a personal message on this site, I'll get in touch w/you.
