Changing name of Media-gateways

Is it as easy as "change media-gateway 1" to change the name of a media-gateway?

I want to change the names of all 25 of our MG's to be more uniform. Will this be a service affecting change?

Or, do I have to remove it from the ip-network-region screen first, then remove the survivable as it is defined by the name?

Yes, "cha media 1" should work and changing the name of the gateway should not be service affecting.

Re: Changing name of Media-gateways

You don't have a test LSP you could try this on do you? I just want to make sure before I try this. According to my SS from Avaya, she says it will be service affecting because of the ip-network-region and survivable-processor pages being connected to this MG name.

I'm not questioning you by any means. I just need that warm fuzzy feeling that I won't take down a site by changing these names.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from?

Re: Changing name of Media-gateways

Well, I just changed the name on media-gateway 9 and cannot see any problems anywhere.

Al, you are correct once again!!

Thanks so much for your help!

I did before I posted my first reply.

Then if I were you I wouldn't let this SS anywhere near my switch:
  1. The ip-network-region must be specified on the media-gateway form, not the other way around.
  2. The survivable-processors are named on the node-names ip form and the ip-network-region is specified on the survivable-processor form. There is no place for the LSP on the media-gateway form nor is there a place for the media-gateway on the survivable-processor form.

I understand EXACTLY where you're coming from. It's hard not to question such a procedure when a "supposed" expert is feeding you crap.
