s8700 connections

My S8700 Servershttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/1.gif are currently connected to my Cajun Switches. Each server connects to both Cajuns. At the same time my S8700 servers have a connection to my company network switch. I also have an Extreme switch which all my MM, CLAN and MEDPRO's connect into which that switch has an uplink to my company network switch. Is there a reason my S8700 servers have to stay on the company network switch and not on the Extreme switch? If I were to move those connections off my company switch to the extreme switch is there goign to be any service disruption and can I do this during the day?

Re: s8700 connections

You sure seem to like creating a lot of unnecessary work for yourself.

From a telecom/S8xx0 perspective the Extreme switch -IS- a "company network switch." It makes no difference which "company network switch" that you use. Moving the connection will not be service affecting.

Al, correct me if I'm wrong in this thinking but eliminating my physical connections to my corporate network switch will keep the voice network running w/o downtime if the network switches fail. And I totally agree with you that alot of this is unnecessary work. unfortunately I am following the wishes/orders of upper mngt that like to play voice guru's.

Depends on WHICH connection you're talking about. The Corporate LAN connection to your S8xx0 PBX is only for maintenance and administration (ASA, Maintenance Web Interface, etc.) so you are correct in that disconnecting THOSE links wouldn't be a problem. SAme with the VAL. It only uses the ethernet link to upload/download .wav files and for firmware upgrades.

However, your MedPro's and CLANS, etc. are horses of different colors. Their actual function is DESINGED to work via ethernet so removal of their link could have a negative impact on service if something/someone requires the resources that they provide at the time you disconnect them.

Re: s8700 connections

so is there any reason to move those corporate connections to the s8700?? I'd much rather not and justify why.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. A Corporate LAN connection is a Corporate LAN connection. There is no reason to move it. There is no reason not to move it. Someone just likes making busy work for you.
