Clan

I have to move my CLAN connection from one switch to another. Do I just move it and will it re-register itself or do you need to do other steps??

If you're not changing anything except it's physical connectivity (i.e. IP address, gateway, etc. remains the same) then it will simply be out of service for the few seconds that you're moving the cable. Other than that you'll be fine.

Status the link associated with the CLAN and you might have to kick it in the ass ("busy/release link x") to get it restarted ... but it should come back on it's own.

Well, that's an impossible question for anyone but you to answer since everything that the CLAN supports will go down and you're the only one on-site with access to the PBX and it's programming. It could be many things or nothing at all. It depends on what the CLAN is programmed to do ... DCS links, Audix links, VOIP signalling for trunks and phones, etc.

Re: Clan

well I have 2 clans.. 1 dedicated to MM which I'm aware of the impact of VM. I have 3 IP phones and IP trunking to my branch offices. I know they will be out until the board recovers but what about standard digital phones making outbound calls and inbound for non 4 digit dialing call. Where else can I look because I just took this switch over a month ago and this is the first time we have to do this..

Re: Clan

Digital phones do not use a CLAN for their own purposes, only when they call to something else that uses a CLAN. If they are making calls to services or phones that do not use a CLAN, they will work fine.

TDM traffic will be unaffected unless it's to a Gateway that is being controlled through the CLAN. In other words, Digital station calls to local T1/Copper trunks will not be affected; Digital station to Digital station calls within the same or between fiber connected port networks will remain unaffected. Only items being controlled through the CLAN will be affected ... and only for the very short period of time that you're actually moving the cables. I'd be willing to wager that if you perform the move after hours and the ethernet cables are disconnected for less than a minute that no one will even notice.

Re: Clan

The short story behind all this is my current config has both my CLAN's and all 4 MM machines connecting over to my company's network switch directly. we have an Extreme switch that is pretty much for the voice network only. we are trying to eliminate connections to our corporate LAN switch in the event 1 day it should fail.. we would then not lose the voice network so tonight we are moving the cables off the network switch over to the extreme switch which the ports are setup for the correct voice vlan and there is a link between the Extreme and the corporate nortel switch. did I make sense?? The new cables are already pre-run and this swap will literally take 10 seconds so I'm trying to cover all bases.

Re: Clan

make sure the ports on the switch are configured the same as the ports on your old switch. Meaning if they are configured as 100 full on the CLAN they should also be configured as 100 full on the switch port.
