G3si & G350 Fax Problems

We currently installed a G350 in one of our remote locations and are now being told that the G350 will not work with our current phone system. (G3si v.11) Of course this wasn't told to us until after the purchase and installation. Is there any fix that we can provide without having to upgrade our main system? We have a full data T1 connecting the 2 sites. The G350 is a full VoIP solution with analog ports for faxes. Someone please help us. I don't believe that we have to upgrade our system to make the faxes work.

Well, since you're 100% IP then the phones can simply ride the T1. Easiest thing to do is get POTS lines for the fax machines and be done with it ... or you could purchase MultiTech VOIP voice/fax gateways for both ends and route the fax machines via those devices.

You MUST have an S8xx0 platform to utilize the G350.

Re: G3si & G350 Fax Problems

The G350 is the only system that is VoIP. We have had the other system in for long time. I have been given that option already and that is not one that we will go with. There has to be some other way to fix the fax issue, especially since our dial up modem works from there. I will keep looking for a fix to this issue.

Well, you HAVE to have a MedPro, CLAN and licensing on the other end to use the G350, so the VoIP phones should register with the si without issue.

There is no Avaya analog/fax-to-ip solution without an external gateway. The "fix" is going to be either POTS lines or some third-party hardware. Again, MultiTech makes some VoIP gateways that will accomplish this for you ... but it might be more cost effective to simply use POTS lines.

Re: G3si & G350 Fax Problems

We have everything listed and more, but we are told that without a full sytem upgrade on the main end from a G3si to a S8700, it will not work. I want to know whether or not this is true.

Well ... that's PARTIALLY true.

You must upgrade to an "S" series server in order to utilize the G350, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the S8700. An S8500 would work just fine and an S8400 with G650s might even be even cheaper. However, an "S" series server MUST be in the mix to make the G350 work.

Another option would be to install an S8300 in the G350 thereby making it a stand-alone PBX. Then you could DCS it back to the G3si via IP trunking and utilize the voicemail system at the Main location as Centralized VM.

If you need help pricing out these options, drop me a private email.

We did purchase an S8300 with the G350 and did exactly what you said. That is the exact configuration we have now. But apparently our PBX is not where it should be as far as the version. We are currently at Version 11.

Is the S8300 licensed as a stand-alone processor or an LSP?

Re: G3si & G350 Fax Problems

I know that Avaya is forcing everyone to be within the last 2 releases for maintenance and support. Since 9.5 works and doesn't have licensing issues it's much more cost effective and you can have anyone support it. And it's ip softphone enabled. FYI for those about to upgrade because Avaya says you HAVE to. Most people are very unhappy with this.

Re: G3si & G350 Fax Problems

You cannot buy release 9.5 any more nor can you get updates or additional features activated. What ever you have now is what you will have forever. If you need more ports because your company is growing, won't happen. If you decide to add IP phones and that was not in the plans when you installed the PBX, you will be limited to the few that come default with the switch, I believe that is about 20. It requires traditional cabinets which themselves are becoming harder to find parts for because Avaya is no longer supporting them.

It will also not support the newer cards (like a VAL), just a couple things to think about.

I have a G3R V.10 and I just purchased RTU's from a BP. They aren't installed yet but the BP didn't say I couldn't get them.

Re: G3si & G350 Fax Problems

An R10 is a licensed switch with a SID so your BP can probably go to RFA and increase the RTU. If this BP has never worked with you before, there will probably be some paper shuffling between you, the BP, and Avaya before they can help you.

Let us know if you get your RTU increase.

Re: G3si & G350 Fax Problems

I thought that would be ok. Anything that is licensed with a SID can be upgraded through RFA. The 9.5 mentioned previously is not supported by RFA and requires a manual access by Avaya for any upgrades, and they will no longer do that.

They had trouble getting my SID but I guess they finally did. Display Capacity shows the new RTU's.
