Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

I am sure I am asking a question that has been asked before, but I will ask anyway. We have a new Cisco Call Manager and need to link it to our Avaya Definity. Since the Avaya is not IP enabled, we plan to connect them via a "dummy" PRI T1 link. Does anyone know how to do this, or know of any current knowledge bases where this info can be found? So far I have had no luck messing around with it myself.

If you can't do IP trunking, you will need to use a physical DS1 card.

Yes, I have a DS1 card, and it's equivelant in the Cisco gateway. It is figuring out how to program the two sides that is vexing me. I could just wait for their support people, but I prefer doing things myself when possible.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Can't help you at the Cisco end, but at the Definity end make it a lineside T1 using an ISDN tie trunk group.

Roll the send and receive pairs at one end. You will know that you have connectivity when you test the board and tests 138-146 all pass. A CSU will not be needed if the machines are close.

I am failing a test 138 right now, but passing all others (139-146). I believe this indicates a loss of signal. Does this mean I am not getting anything from the other end? Also, how do I roll the send and receive pairs? I have done many telco provided circuits, but these tie links always mystify me.

Are you using a T1 Cross-Over cable? ... i.e. on the RJ-45 pins 1 and 2 on the one side go to 4 and 5 on the other (respectively).

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Duh...okay I have fixed that problem. Things look much better now, but I am still failing a 138, but this time with a code of 1301. All other tests pass, including the tests on the channels. Any idea's on what that might mean?

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Did you add a 120 CSU? It is not needed but if you want to keep it, go back to the DS1 page and set the CSU to integrated. That is what 1301 is telling you.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

To use UDP you will need to build a trunk group around this T1.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

All ready done...how do I figure out what the UDP code is to send calls for a particular extension to the correct trunk group?

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Your choice, this is not predetermined in the PBX. I always use a three digit code, myself.

To find out if you already have some UDP codes assigned, type "list aar an". Do not use any of the numbers you see on this list for your UDP code.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Hello, I have a similar situation, connecting a new Cisco to a Definity G3i. Can you tell me which DS1 board you used? Was it a TN767C?

Thanks
