Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

I have a similar problem. I'm trying to connect an Avaya Definity G3r to a Cisco Call Manager 6.1 via a 3845 router using E1 cards at both ends. On the Avaya, when I do "test board", test 138 fails. When I do "status trunk 90", I get "out-of-service-NE".
I cannot communicate with the Call Manager.

I will appreciate all the help I can get.

Re-read all the previous parts of this thread. If you are failing test 138 you have a loss of signal. Did you roll the send and receive pairs? Do not use a 120 CSU with an E1 because it will not work.

Did you set the option switches on the TN464 for E1?

Until you pass all tests 138-146 you will always be out of service on the trunk group. Once those tests all pass you will need to build the signal group and then verify that it is in service. Only then will the trunk group go in service.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Hi Martin,

I replaced the distribution frame and now, when I test the board, test 138-146 are clean. However, when I test the signal group, I still get an error and when I test the trunk, it's still out of service. I have created the signal-group, ds1 and trunk groups with the ds1 ports on the trunk group.

Find the test signalling-group result below

test signaling-group 3

TEST RESULTS

Port Maintenance Name Alt. Name Test No. Result Error Code

3 ISDN-SGR 636 PASS
3 ISDN-SGR 639 ABORT 1132
3 ISDN-SGR 637 ABORT 1113
3 ISDN-SGR 647 FAIL 1

Test 647:

Fail/Error Code 1

Layer 2 of the primary signaling channel is down:

1. Examine the results of the Primary Signaling Test (#636) and follow recommendations provided there.
2. If test #636 passes, the Layer 2 Query test may still fail if the Signaling Channel at the far end has not been administered correctly or if the Signaling Channel has been busied out. Verify that the Primary Signaling Channel (D-channel) at the far end has been administered correctly. Verify that the DS1 port used for the Primary D-channel has not been busied out at the far end.
regs,

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Until the signal group is in service, don't even worry about the trunk group because it will never be in service.

Could you show us your signal group programming? Remember that an E1 has two D channels, not one.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Hi guys,

Thanks a whole lot. The problem was from the Cisco Call Manager. It's been reconfigured and is working well now.
I really appreciate the support.

Jibade.

Re: Connecting Avaya Definity to Cisco Call Manager

Thackney - I am using TN464F DS1 cards and 120A integrated CSUs. I am doing a T1 emulation (as opposed to E1), and using a cross over T1 cable (as noted above - thanks Ahays & Marty). I would think any T1 card and CSU would work. Of course if you want features like caller ID you will need a card (and switch feature set) that supports PRI. I think the Cisco cards will support PRI and CAS T1s out of the gate.
