ARS Routing Issue
We have an Avaya G3siV11 PBX and one of our locations has to dial 11 digits for local calls due to area an code change by the local phone company. We have several phones in the building that are restricted to only dialing local calls. Now that this change has taken place, these phones can not dial out because they are considered FNPA calls. How do we setup our ARS to allow these phones to make local calls?

Re: ARS Routing Issue
You will have to re-define the local NPA/NXX combinations as local. If you have declared all 11-digit calls as ld, and don't have entries for all NPA/NXX combinations, this will take some time because you will have to do this to make it all work.
I've gotta run so unless someone else gives you an example, I'll try to put something together for you tomorrow.

Re: ARS Routing Issue
It will depend on how your ARS tables are set up whether this will be a large task or a small task. At the very minimum you will need to define the new Area Code as a local call. For this example we will call your new Area Code "419".
Type "change ars an 14" and fill out the data as follows. Type "1419" and press tab, type "11" and tab again then type "11" once more. Now enter the route pattern that local calls use and call type "hnpa". Press enter and make a test call.

Re: ARS Routing Issue
when I changed our ars to hnpa from fnpa we could not make any local calls since we have to dial 1 + area code and number. I had to change it back to fnpa. Should the system allow hnpa if 1 + area code is dialed or is that considered a long distance call and it has to be FNPA?

Re: ARS Routing Issue
getting back to what we had discussed, did you happen look at how your toll-free dialing is set up (assuming the phones you are trying to restrict to local calls can make toll-free calls)

Re: ARS Routing Issue
This is a strange problem. I used a COR and COS of someone that can make local calls by dialing 1 + area code and I used this same COR and COS on our Lobby phones and they can not make local calls by dialing 1 + area code. This is how I have our ARS ANA setup:
1xxx 11, 11, 4, FNPA |

Re: ARS Routing Issue
Are you sure that local calls can't be dealt with by dialing 10 digits?
Most of the time when you have to dial the NPA for locals you don't have to dial the 1. NPA-Nxx-xxxx is 10 digits if so you could create an ARS entry as follows NPA 10 10 1 hnpa (or local instead of hnpa) where 1 is the FRL. where NPA is the local NPA for the area (if you want your loby phones to be internal only then set the FRL as low as you can for this ARS entry without allowing the loby phones to acces it.) All of my public access extensions are set to FRL 0 for internal/E911 only. |
