Routing random extensions to a fax server

Does anyone know how we can set up the trunk group where we would like to route random fax numbers to a fax server. We have CM3.1.

Re: Routing random extensions to a fax server

The easiest way I know is to use a range of extensions and route them using dialplan analysis. If you need a go-by I wrote a document last year for interfacing a Brooktrout fax card to an S8700 which I can send to you. It was written for a CM2.0 system and the interface is ISDN PRI so the trunking may be different, but the routing is exactly the same.

Re: Routing random extensions to a fax server

We have to many of these. What you want to do is route using UDP. Build your trunk group as a tie. If it's brooktrout or dialogic cards you need to know how their cards are setup. Usually they are D4 and AMI. Then take the extension and add it into UDP. You can route it in AAR to the route pattern that has the new trunk group. I'm not sure there is a good manual available other than ARS.

One additional comment on the Brooktrout board config. The older boards were always D4/AMI but the newer boards support B8ZS/ESF also and come that way by default. Verify what you have.

Re: Routing random extensions to a fax server

You can route any number to a FAX server/trunk group using ARS. This method will also pass the routed to number ani to the FAX server in case it needs to be put in a specific FAX queue for staff processing.

TFN (800)nnn-xxxx/ DNIS 1234 -> vec 123 -> route-to number 95678#.

5678 is configured in ARS as a 4 dight number to the FAX server tie trunk using a unique route pattern.

The 9 sends to ARS the # on the end says "I'm done, process now".

Only limit is number of specfic entries you are willing to put in ARS.

Or set up a range in ARS like 56xx, one ARS entry, 100 numbers.

AAR works but I don't think it passes the routed to number as ANI to the FAX server. Above ARS will.

This isn't really necessary though, since the sending fax will transmit it's own number inband as part of the fax header...
