Have you double checked the IP´s addresses?!! (ip phone address, call server, gateway, subnet mask). It may also be an UDP,TCP port issues, blocked by the router.

Re: how to connect a 4620 ip phone to CM

at the office the ip address for the PBX is 192.168.181.120.
the IP Phone at my Boss House is 192.168.180.9
the call server on the phone is pointed to 192.168.181.120
the gateway is 192.168.180.254 at my boss house.
I have a VPN Tunnel between the two site and i'm not bloking any port across the tunnel.

What is the subnet mask on the phone? I would think that your user also has some sort of workstation at the house, check the IP settings and if it gets an address in the class c 180.x, range, run both ping and a tracert tests to 192.168.181.120 and paste them here.

Describe the total physicall connectivity. You have a VPN tunnel, but is it a hardware tunnel ... i.e. are there physical devices on each end creating the tunnel and not just software on the boss' PC?

Re: how to connect a 4620 ip phone to CM

we have to hotbrick hardware firewall on each end that is creating a VPN tunnel over Cable Modem..
He function as if he was in the office.outlook works well, Messanger Manager works well, IP softphone works well.
firewall at my Boss house hotbrick 401
Firewall at the Office Hotbrick firewall VPN 800/2G

Re: how to connect a 4620 ip phone to CM

Couple of days ago I suggested you pull up the PC's IP stack information, and run PING and TRACERT tests from that workstation to your PBX.

Quite honestly, if the IP addresses of the PC and the IP phone are in the same class range, and the softphone works on the PC, then there is probably something misconfigured on the IP phone - or, you could have a routing issue. We can't verify unless you run these and paste the results here.

Now, is the phone using DHCP and getting an IP address from a DHCP server at your office, or is the IP address programmed into the phone?

One other question a coworker suggested, is there any sort of login required to bring the PC up on the VPN tunnel?

Re: how to connect a 4620 ip phone to CM

Caveat - I assume you have done the basic troubleshooting of using a known good network cable, have verified you can connect through the switch port you are using for the phone by connecting the PC there, etc.

Interesting results on the TRACERT - there are no hops to the PBX so the packets aren't being routed (even a router that is not allowed to provide it's IP address on a TRACERT query will still show with a bunch of ***** and a timeout). This tells me the PC has to be in the 192.168.181.x subnet. So, exactly what are the IP config settings for the PC? (just run IPCONFIG /ALL and paste it here).

Try this if you have time. Assign 192.168.180.120 to the PC and set the gateway/subnet mask as you have for the phone, leaving the phone disconnected. I would wager you will not be able to PING and TRACERT to the PBX like you can with the PC configured the way it is now.

Re: how to connect a 4620 ip phone to CM

Also, I wanted to ask - have you plugged this phone in on the network at the office and had it come up using the IP configuration you are attempting to use from home? (Sanity check mostly)
