help I don't know what to do.

Hi My company just moved me to the PBX section is hardley any experience. Some I have resolved and others I am having a difficult time. Can anyone kind of give me some advice on steps I can do. It is a Avaya Definity. Please help.........

1) A user called me and said that they are unable to reach a number in a specific region, but can reach a number in other regions. What can I check?

2) I have a request to modify a route the PBX in order to reach a new office destination; but the addition of the new route will require modification to the existing routes, this might inpact the calls now i guess. What can I do?

3) I was asked to make an administration change to a user extension for a remotely located PBX which has dial-in access from my desk. I try to connect but are unable to do so. How can I gain access to the system?

Thank you for the support......

First, download the three documents referred to in the attachments. They will guide you through basic work.

http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/c...6/233757_6.pdf

http://support.avaya.com/elmodocs2/c...6/233758_6.pdf

1.This is an ARS issue, a big topic. Post the area code here and I will give you specific directions.

2.This is a route pattern change. I do not know your existing configuration so I need the specific change you need to do. I can then tell you where to look.

3.Don't know enough yet to answer this. Call the number from your phone and verify that a modem answers. If it does, dial from ASA and where does fail to connect? Does the modem connect and ask for a login and password or does it fail before then?

But, before I can help, I need to know what kind of Definity and the release number.

Re: help I don't know what to do.

Thank you Marty so much for your quick responce. Not at work but this is what I have so far. The PBX is a Definity G3 I think it is a release i5.

1) Area code 718

2) They want to route callers from a certain area to another office. So I have to create a new route and and modify existing routes. How ould I do this?

3) The modem fails before hand a couple of times it then asks for login but then failed.

One more Issue:

At the end of the day I received a call that all users in a CT office are unable to receive anycalls, when customers dial in they receive an engaged tone. What steps shoould I take to resolve this problem?

Thanks for the references I am going to read them. Once again I appreciate it so much. I am very eager to learn.

Gary,

I am not quite clear what is happening when you are able to connect and attempt to login and it fails, but it could be a microsoft issue on your workstation - they released a security patch some time ago that prevents scripts like this from working. Go to this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911280 and verify you have the latest version of their patch.

Re: help I don't know what to do.

Item 1.

Type "disp ars an 17". Do you find an entry? If not, type "ch ars an 17". Go to a vacant line, probably on the second page and add it in this sequence. Type 17, tab, make the min and max settings the same as the rest of your 17xx codes, tab, enter the route pattern number that the rest of them go to, tab, type "fnpa", press enter. This makes a general entry for 17 so that you do not have to add each area code individually.

Item 2.

Need a little more. What do you mean by route calls from a certain area to another office? Please give me a sample.

Item 3.

Try oozenoz's suggestion.

New question.

This might be a CO problem, contact the dial tone vendor to make sure all is well there.
