Re: System 25 Software
I never saw a terminal hooked up full time to a System 25. When they first came out terminals were expensive and the customers for Sys25 were low end and did not want to spend the money for a dedicated terminal.
What I used was a device that used a roll of fax paper (the kind that got dark if left in the sun light) and printed one line at a time, no GUI. As I remember, first I typed an action code and pressed enter, then a command code pressing enter, then a data code pressing enter. The terminal I carried with me was about 5" x 12" x 2" and had the number 700 in the name, possibly Silent 700 or something like that. Keep in mind that my memories are way more than a decade old for this device. Compared to the System 75 (now Definity) which was also available at that time, it was a very cumbersome machine to program. Since it was at the small end of what I worked on I did not see very many. Good luck!

Our company had to let our chief engineer go a short while ago. Little did we know that he had trashed our phone system administration computer before he left (it's not used often...).
We have an AT&T System 25 system (yep, older than dirt), which is operating fairly happily. I say "fairly" because the system still thinks a couple of people who are no longer with us (i.e. the old chief) are still here. The owner really wants me to fix the system we have and not force a new equipment purchase... All that said, I am looking for a complete copy of the Advanced Administration Software (R3) for DOS. Any help is appreciated. -JP |

Re: System 25 Software
Wow, the last time I worked on a System 25 I think there were still dinosaurs wandering around the planet.
But, much to my immense surprise, documentation is still available at Avaya's web page. Here is the link. http://support.avaya.com/japple/css/...leaseID=129574 You are probably interested in the Installation and Maintenance manual, that will tell you how to put it back together. Programming a System 25 is by command line, it does not use a GUI. And it is not intuitive. If you do not still have what the computer needs, there were several other kinds of terminals that would program the machine. All you need is a serial terminal. Your best bet would be one of the companies that sell old (and I do mean old) terminal equipment that can access the PBX. What I used was an old terminal about the size of an old modem that fed paper through it, I needed that to keep track of what I did because there was no other way. Good luck! But more importantly, do you still have the login and password for it?

Re: System 25 Software
Hi Marty,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Assuming that he did not change them, yes we have the user/password on file. Doesn't the AAS have an ASCII GUI? Planning to try to get into the system later this week... Thank you for your help - it's very appreciated! -JP |
