Bad echo on local side

Brand new G350 with s8300 - having random echo on near end. The customer does not hear it, only the users on the G350 (s8700). These are DIDs on a new PRI. Echo cancellation is ON on the DS1 settings. It is not a bandwidth/latency issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Ross

One possible cause for this is the protocol that is assigned on the DS1 form. It must match what the CO is providing. A very rough breakdown of those protocols is -

a = NI1
b = NI2
c = anything else
d = rarely used, newest protocol

Re: Bad echo on local side

The protocol version has gotten me before too. The help in the system only tells you the options (a,b,c,d) and doesn't tell you what they mean. At least that is the way it is in my software levels. I am not sure if they fixed that in later releases.

I am in the Northeast US, and for us AT&T circuits need to be set to A and Verizon ones need to be set to B. However I am sure it is different in various parts of the country due to the recent telecom mergers and a general lack of standardization in their networks. When I had this setting wrong I had the whole circuit fail to come up, not just line noise. So I am not sure if changing it will fix the issue. That option is a real gotcha, though and not something you are likely to know about unless you came across it before.

Re: Bad echo on local side

Your LD carrier also has to have echo cancellation active on their T1. We had a major issue with Sprint after Katrina. They eventually added echo cancellation in their CO and issue went away.
