Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

Just installed a new G350 w/ s8300 gateway at a location and they are unable to fax to certain places. After some more investigation its to several companies that have analog lines into the PCs that recieve the faxes... They were able to fax to the same company that has a landline. I am able to fax to these PCs at a different location - and I compared the station settings and made them the same, still no luck...
Any idea?
Thanks
Ross

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

You say you can fax to 'landlines' - am I interpreting this to mean that you can fax successfully to a fax machine/PC working on a 1FB from the LEC, but not to PC's hanging off of a PBX?

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

These PC's that you can't fax to, can you call them from a phone and hear fax tone?

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

Well by landline - I guess I mean a pots/centrex line hooked straight into a regular fax.. The computer/fax might also be a landline - im not sure.
Yes, calling does give regular dialtone
Thanks

If you do not hear the fax tone answering when you call the number from a phone (it sounds likes a modem), the problem is at their end. Not yours.

Assuming you mean you hear the modem card attempting to train when the machine answers...

Can you hook your fax up to an external (central office service) analogue line and try to send to the PC/fax that you can't send to otherwise?

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

I saw a problem like that once, but it involved sending faxes to audix mailboxes. The solution was on the sending fax you needed to turn off memory TX. Then press on hook dialing, then dial the number, then when you hear fax tones press send. This solved the issue.

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

Above I wrote "dialtone" I meant the modem noises - so when you call them, yes they do get the modem noises... Im guessing putting these on a regular POTS line or centrex line (which they were) will fix the issue - they were able to fax to these people before without any issues...
Will do this again to be sure
Thanks

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

If you can fax using a POTS line with the same machine, then you have a locally contained problem (analogue card, trunk card, span...)

I saw something similar one time before - new trunks were added to an existing system and all of the sudden faxes and modems weren't working although voice calls were fine. The new span had been added to the beginning of the outgoing hunt order, and the CSU was not programmed correctly. The CSU clock source was free running, which was causing slips. Didn't affect voice, but killed analogue data.

Check for errors on the spans, first. I'll check back later this afternoon after the fires are out.

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

I bet your on to something - the DS1 card that is their - all the DIDs are on this (even faxes) - they do get a BAD echo on the local side. I dont know how to get it resolved - but I wonder if thats the issue - the "pc faxes" are more sensitive - because some faxes do work just fine - and they havent had any incoming fax issues... Not sure what you mean by span - How do I check for errors on the DS1?

The command is "test board <DS1 board>", you can cancel the tests after test 146 because the rest are for the individual channels. What tests failed? If the only test that failed was 144, redo the test. That is a slip counter and resets to zero after testing. It should pass now, if it doesn't then the span (that is the circuit back to the CO) is slipping.

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

The fact that you are experiencing echo is troubling. Do all of your incoming and outgoing calls go over the same DS1? How many of the calls have echo? A few? A lot? All? If your users are keeping track of the bad calls, is there any consistency to the numbers you are calling - such as the area code or office codes?

Re: Cant fax to pc/based faxes?

Did you do as Marty instructed and re-run the test? Or is this the result AFTER running the test a second time?

Try running a list measurement DS1 summary for the DS1 board position in question... it should show you something similar to this:

Those were the results after running it a couple times in a row...
The echo is pretty bad - it comes and goes- its only when calling using that DS1 when it happens - calling VoIP internally is fine.
