Upgrade Gr3 to S8720
Hi all;
Our group of companies will upgrade their existing G3r (R9) including 6 PNs to S8720 media servers (Multiconnect) FYI number of users is 4600 and 1000 trunk ports. My questions: How can we calculate numbers of IPSI Cards? How can we calculate Numbers of MedPro Cards if we want to introduce IP phones and Soft phones? What are main points that should be considered before this upgrade? Thank you all for kind coorporations. |

Re: Upgrade Gr3 to S8720
There are many more questions to answer than you have asked here and most of them require asking you questions first.
For example, your easiest question is how many IPSIs do you need. Before answering that, I need to ask what your current configuration is per switch. Are you critical reliability, or duplicated? If so, do you want to keep that or upgrade to that? Your answer will determine how many IPSIs will be needed. A standard installation is one IPSI for every five port networks per switch. For MedPros, do you want the default TN2302 or the more capable TN2602 MedPro? I would suggest getting with Avaya or a good Business Partner and discuss your options with them. Things they will talk about include, rack space to mount all the new components, voice mail, will your current network support IP phones, do you want the server on your LAN or separate, after a survey of all your switches what circuit packs need to be upgraded (and ones you will no longer need), what adjuncts do you have attached to the PBXs (CMS, Voice Mail, Call Accounting, NICE, etc.) and what will need to change with them. There will be more than that but this is a beginning. The vendor has the tools and expertise to do all the calculations needed after finding out what you want and plan to add.

Re: Upgrade Gr3 to S8720
Thank you for your replay, and I hope my questions didn’t bothered you, anyway I would like to get some technical information from this forum to suggest it to the vendor because I believe this place is the only expert place to get the reel information base on reel experiences.
Our System is Critical Reliable, and we will keep it, and we will use the capable Medpro, we are using INTIUITY MAP 5 and Data module for CAS only. |

The TN2602 can carry much more traffic but they cost more money and there are licensing considerations with them that the TN2302 does not have. How many you will need will be determined by how many network regions you divide the system into, how many IP phones you plan on, will there be any applications that require a MedPro all to itself, are you planning on any IP trunking. Your Intuity will need to be at least a 4.4 because the connection will be by IP to the switch. CAS will need to be looked at because there are no data modules in an S8720 server, the output from the PBX will be IP and the CAS will need to accept an IP input or an IP to serial adapter is required. Anything else that uses data modules will also need to be changed. If you are using TN750C announcement cards, they will work in an S8720 but you cannot change any announcements, record any announcements, or fix any that go bad. I recommend you upgrade to a TN2501 VAL board. Do not keep any TN750B announcement boards. If you are considering IP phones, have a network assessment done by Avaya. This will tell you what needs to be done to your LAN to make sure the IP phones work. Remember that no one on this list can do a site survey so we can't see if something is being overlooked. Do not sell Avaya or its' Business Partners short, they do have real world experience.
