TN744E Question
Is there a limit to number of PRI in the phone system? We have a G3csi - and currently have 10 PRI lines. I am reading that a 744E says it only supports 8 ports?
Can I add more 744E or do I need to get something else to support more? or am I incorrect on how this functions since I have never ran into this before. Thanks! Jeremy |

Re: TN744E Question
ISDN T1s and TN744 Call Classifiers are not the same thing. So lets do one at a time.
You have ten ISDN-PRI DS1 cards in a G3csi. That should be ok but you are getting close. Do a "list measure load total today" and see what percent of occupancy you are showing. This will be the total tdm usage at the busiest time today. Do this for a few days. If you are running consistently at over 50% keep a real close eye on things. If you hit 70% (especially more than once) you are outgrowing the PBX you have today. If you stay under 50% you are ok but the preferred volume should be around 30%. Another measurement to run is 'list measure tru sum today" and check the %ATB column. That is the percent of all trunks blocked, if there is an entry there see if it coincides with a high occupancy reading. A TN744 is an advanced Tone Detecter and provides the additional tones used by ACDs. You can have as many of these you want. What they provide are the tones you hear everytime you use a phone, dial tone, DTMF tones when you dial the phone, ring tones, busy tones, etc. You can look at this with "list measure tone sum today", you do not want any entries in the two denied columns and your peak requests should not come near the total available. You will know if you are having problems with that because you will get complaints from people about going off hook and not hearing dial tone, when dialing the phone nothing happened, etc. Don't forget that the Tone Clock also provides these same tones.

Re: TN744E Question
Ok I will check that out- any other ideas why these PRI won't come up? The settings are all correct in the phone system. I have them plugged into TN2464 and TN 2464BP
It seems like even if we unplug them for a second they might not come back up and Verizon is telling us that it is our problem because they can loop the CSU and they are not seeing the dchannel communications coming from my side. |

Keep an eye on your processor occupancy. If you begin to notice slow dial-tones, mis-directed calls (i.e. showing up at the console as "unknown call") then it may be time to upgrade to an S8xx0. With an S8xx0 platform you can keep your existing cabinets and still add additional port networks making your growth less painful on the pocketbook. regs, .al.

The usual causes for a card not to come back up is, it is defective or the processor is too busy to process that request. Do a "status health", what percent occupancy is the processor running? Do this now to get an immediate snapshot. Do it again during your slowest time of day, usually just before you open or after you close for the day. And do it one more time during the busiest part of the day, this is usually within a couple hours of opening and again right after lunch.
