interchange servers

I would like to test interchanging my call servers. I know how to get in to the console and start the process. My questions are:

What will I see happen?
Will the users experience anything noticeable?
If it doesn't work for some strange reason... what happens and what do I do to fix it?
How do I revert it back?
Should this be done during business hours?

Re: interchange servers

What will I see happen?

Depends on what your PBX is. Essentially you will see the lights change and eventually all the lights that are on the old active server will now be on the new active server. Before doing this command, do a "status spe" and notice what all the settings are. After the interchange you will need to wait for all the settings to return to normal before doing anything else, usually about 15-20 minutes.

Will the users experience anything noticeable?

The only people that will notice anything will be those in a transient state, dialing a call, transferring a call, etc. They will have to start over. Stable calls will not be disturbed.

If it doesn't work for some strange reason... what happens and what do I do to fix it?

If it doesn't work, nothing will change and you will get an error message explaining the problem. The only time I have experienced a problem is if the standby SPE has a problem and the switch has determined the the current active SPE is healthier than the other one.

How do I revert it back?

Run the command again, but before doing so check the health by doing "status spe". It is generally not a good idea to change back until your previous interchange is stable.

Should this be done during business hours?

This is called a non-service affecting maintenance command, I've done it during business hours many times. The only people affected will be the ones I mentioned above.
